ASB Informationstechnik Secures Its Future with GROW with SAP
ASB Informationstechnik faced a common challenge for mid-sized companies: an SAP ECC landscape that had evolved over many years, burdened with legacy master data and rigid processes that slowed down efficiency. The IT service provider decided on a bold move: together with consolut, the company migrated to SAP Cloud ERP as part of its GROW with SAP journey—laying the foundation for a modern, scalable, and future-ready IT architecture.
The Challenge
Mid-sized companies that want to modernize their SAP systems often face the same set of questions: How much effort will it take? How heavily will it tie up internal resources? And how can daily operations remain stable throughout the process? These were exactly the concerns of ASB Informationstechnik, an IT subsidiary of the Grillo Group. A historically grown system landscape with outdated master data inherited from its separation from the former parent company and deeply entrenched processes had slowed operations for years.
The IT service provider needed a solution to replace its aging SAP ECC environment and make the technological leap into a modern, future-proof public cloud system landscape—quickly, efficiently, and without disrupting daily business. The project also had to be manageable for a small internal team while establishing a solid foundation for the future. The answer: a standardized implementation of SAP Cloud ERP (formerly SAP S/4HANA Cloud, Public Edition) through the GROW with SAP program for mid-sized companies—launching its transformation into the SAP Cloud.
What Is GROW with SAP?
GROW with SAP offers companies a standardized entry point into SAP Cloud ERP. Instead of developing complex processes from scratch, preconfigured best practices are available out of the box. This “fit-to-standard” approach ensures transparency and reduces coordination overhead. Automatic updates keep the system compliant, reflecting regulatory changes in real time. For ASB, this combination was decisive: a streamlined, fast path into the public cloud—without the weight of a large-scale transformation project.
The Solution
To analyze business processes and define the project scope, consolut conducted a Digital Discovery Assessment (DDA) together with ASB. The focus was on a few key questions:
- Which processes should be mapped in the public cloud?
- Where are adjustments needed, and where is the SAP standard sufficient?
- Which data, roles, or workflows need to be clarified in advance?
The result was a clear, validated project roadmap that ensured a smooth and reliable SAP Cloud transformation.
Understanding Standards – Rethinking Processes
Building on this foundation, the first steps took place in the SAP starter system—using both SAP-provided test data and ASB’s own real project data—before moving on to the fit-to-standard workshops. This allowed ASB to test real scenarios early, get hands-on experience with the system, and make informed decisions based on actual system insights. A key success factor was embracing the cloud mindset: rethinking processes, challenging established routines, and leveraging the benefits of standardized workflows.
“I think the system is fantastic. It’s very intuitive, easy to navigate – and best of all, we’re now working completely paperless.”
The Result
Improved Data Quality
Migrating to SAP Cloud ERP enabled ASB to fundamentally modernize its data foundation. The company cleansed outdated and redundant master data, rebuilt structures, and made them consistent. Today, ASB benefits from significantly clearer and more reliable data quality.
Streamlined Processes
By adopting SAP Best Practices, ASB restructured complex workflows. Processes now consist of fewer steps, are easier to follow, faster, and require less manual effort.
Modern User Experience
The role-based SAP Fiori interface offers an intuitive user experience. Employees can access relevant information faster, navigate with fewer clicks, and benefit from a clean, organized layout. The result: greater efficiency and a more enjoyable user experience.
Paperless Operations
A visible improvement: fully digital workflows instead of paper documents. This accelerates processes, enhances transparency, and supports sustainability.
Reduced Resource Requirements
One of the advantages of the public cloud became apparent during the project itself: the implementation required fewer internal resources than expected. Many functions were ready to use out of the box, and the standardized approach minimized coordination efforts—significantly easing the workload for the small ASB team.
Faster Project Delivery
Thanks to the fit-to-standard approach, the implementation was completed faster than comparable ECC or on-premise projects. The quick go-live proved a clear advantage and validated the chosen path.
SAP Cloud ERP as a Model for the Future
SAP Cloud ERP is modern, scalable, and future-ready—while also being leaner in operation than the former ECC environment. Even after go-live, its potential continues to show: processes can be easily enhanced, and new functionalities can be activated quickly. Especially for mid-sized companies with limited resources and complex SAP landscapes, ASB’s project demonstrates that the SAP Public Cloud offers a pragmatic, efficient path to modernizing ERP structures—without a large-scale transformation or added complexity.
“ASB’s open approach to new processes and its clear cloud mindset played a crucial role in breaking old patterns and building a modern system.”
