Buffer over runs and under runs indicate that the Disk Arm was ready to read or write data but a data buffer was not available. During short bursts of activity this may be normal.
The larger the number of bytes transferred during a read or write operation the more sensitive your system is to configuration limits. If buffer over runs or under runs are occurring frequently it may indicate that there is a bottleneck at the DIOP or the disk controller. This can quite often be caused by having more than the recommended number of arms attached to a controller or DIOP and a high system work load.
If performance objectives are not being met, you may need to review your configuration and make the appropriate changes and/or rearrange the system work load to better spread I/O demands across time.
