The average service time is the average time it takes the arm to service an I/O request. High average service times may result in longer response times and/or reduced throughput especially for I/O intensive jobs. In many cases this could be reduced by rescheduling I/O intensive system work load to off-peak time periods.
If the service time is over 0.150 seconds, disk error retries are probably occurring, indicating the device may fail soon. Contact your service representative to examine the device. Note that the error log may not indicate a problem.
