A T1 timer end occurs when the local system waits longer than the value in LANRSPTMR for an acknowledgement of a frame sent to a remote system. A low number of T1 timer ends may be acceptable depending on your configuration. An acceptable level is generally less than ten percent of the frames transmitted.
It is important to understand the reason for the T1 timer ends. Powering off or disconnecting a PC may cause T1 timer ends, which is no cause for concern. Other causes may need to be investigated. For example, if data is being transmitted across a bridge, and the bridge becomes a bottleneck, you may begin to lose connections if the number of retries exceeds the retry limit (LANFRMRTY). If you are losing connections, you may have to increase the following parameters in your controller descriptions on the local server:
LANRSPTMR - LAN response timer (amount of time to wait for a remote acknowledgement).
LANFRMRTY - LAN frame retry (number of times to retry a transmission).
You may also need to adjust parameters on the remote system. For example, adjust the remote system's T2 timer down or the remote system's N3 value down. For remote iSeries servers, T2 is the LANACKTMR and N3 is the LANACKFRQ.
To identify the remote device (iSeries, 32XX controller, or PC for example) look at the QSYSOPR message queue; or the QLUS, QSNADS, QHST, and QSYSARB job logs.
For additional information, you may want to review the Server Communications: Local Area Network Guide(SC41-0004), or the Local Area Network Technical Reference (SC30-3383).
