Purpose

Use the Transfer Transportation Management Master Data tool to transfer or synchronize master data objects of Transportation Management between SAP S/4HANA systems.

Integration

Prerequisites

There are the following use cases for this tool:

  • System conversion from SAP TM (Business Suite) to Transportation Management in SAP S/4HANA
Often, master data is migrated into a sandbox or master data setup system. The conversion can be done using the TM Migration Tool (transaction /SCMTMS/2S4H). After the system conversion, the migrated data needs to be transported into the future (or already existing and used) productive system. For this step, the Transfer Transportation Management Master Data tool can be used.
  • Master data synchronization between SAP S/4HANA systems
Sometimes, Customizing and master data of quality and productive systems need to be kept in sync. For Customizing, this can be achieved by importing Customizing settings into all relevant systems (via Customizing transports). For master data, you can use DRF (Data Replication Framework) to distribute supported objects to all relevant systems. For not supported objects, BAPIs can be used, if available. For all other master data objects, the Transfer Transportation Management Master Data tool can be used.

Features

Use this tool to replicate master data from one SAP S/4HANA system into another. The distribution is based on TM migration objects. A TM migration object contains a definition of the master data objects as well as object-specific transfer and processing logic.

Selection

The tool provides a selection screen on which you can make the following settings:

  • General Settings
Define the transfer mode, which can be Simulation or Data Transfer. For the transfer mode Simulation, you can define a lot size to avoid a full data upload for simulation purposes. Furthermore, you can decide to select data together or separately from the data transfer.
  • Logging
Define the level of detail for the transfer log from the data transfer.
  • Target System Processing
Define the data transfer package size. This influences the memory consumption and the performance of the data transfer in the source and target system.
For some objects, missing prerequisite or inconsistent data in the target system lead to the rejection of the whole transfer package. That means, having data consistency problems with one of for example 50 objects of the same transfer package, all 50 objects might be skipped from posting in the target system. So, smaller package sizes might lead to a better throughput and less memory allocation but might result in a longer runtime of the data transfer.
  • Keymap Filter Settings
Keymap data is needed for any master data, that is replicated via ALE, DRF, or BAPIs and that is used by BOPF-based master data objects. It contains the technical key and external ID of such master data objects from the source and target system. The keymap information is collected in the target system.
  • BAPI-Based Master Data Filter Settings
BAPI-based master data are usually master data objects, which are not only used by Transportation Management, like location master, or resource master. For such objects, BAPI function modules exist in SAP S/4HANA, which are used for the master data transfer.
It is mandatory to define a Business System Groupof the target system, to which the transferred objects are assigned.
BAPI-based master data objects are created in the target system with the same external object IDs, but usually get new technical keys. For them, keymap data is collected in the target system automatically.
In general, only new objects are created in the target system. However, with option Merge via BAPI, also updates to existing objects are possible. A deletion of existing data is not supported.
  • BO Object Filter Settings
BOPF-based master data are usually TM specific master data objects, which are modelled in the Business Objects Processing Framework (BOPF). The transfer into the target system is done with identical technical keys and external object IDs.
In general, only new objects are created in the target system. However, with the option Merge BO Data Transfer, also updates to existing objects are possible. A deletion of object data is not supported.
For some BOPF-based master data, there are bidirectional relationships between objects of different BOPF business objects. In this case, a less strict data consistency check needs to be activated by unchecking option Strict XBO Link Checks. This is mainly relevant for master data of Contract Management.

Standard Variants

Output

After executing the Transfer Transportation Management Master Data tool, the tool informs you about the number of selected objects and triggers the data transfer to the target system as a batch job.

The batch job log and the batch job spool can be checked for the status, progress, and the protocol of the master data transfer.
