The solution builder for SAP Business All-in-One
Purpose
The solution builder for SAP Business All-in-One (shortend form: solution builder) enables you to select, adapt, and activate preconfigured SAP Best Practices scenarios in an SAP system. In addition, you can create your own business content using this tool as a development and deployment platform.
The focus of the solution builder is on solutions. A solution contains a set of SAP Best Practices scenarios, which are predefined process flows for a business situation, such as Logistics Planning or Credit Management.
Such a scenario consists of one or more building blocks, which are self-contained and reusable entities of business. They include customizing settings and/or master data steps.
The solution builder for SAP Business All-in-One consists of the followings components:
- The Solution Editor, which is used to perform all tasks connected with the solution scope.
- The Implementation Assistant, which is used mainly to activate solutions and scenarios, as well as manage scenarios.
- The Building Block Builder, which is used to create and maintain building blocks.
You can switch between the different components according to your role and tasks (scoping, personalization, development, or activation). For example, consulting and presales users mainly work in the Solution Editor when working on scope and in the Implementation Assistant during installation. Development users have a focus on the Building Block Builder, but also benefit from using the Implementation Assistant for the actual installation.
The solution builder for SAP Business All-in-One provides the following functions:
- Import of solution scope files with preconfigured scenarios
- Import of installation data files with sample data, master data, and customizing steps
- Definition of the solution scope, manually or by means of a graphical scoping engine
- Personalization of a favorite solution
- Activation of a favorite solution or of particular scenarios
- Development of your own solutions, scenarios, and building blocks
- Allocation of scenarios to application areas, and creation of your own application areas

You have imported and installed the add-ons required for using SAP Best Practices. One of these add-ons includes the solution builder for SAP Business All-in-One.
Features
Scenario documentation
You can attach documentation to all items of the solution builder and also access it directly from there. Various types of documentation are possible, from internal (SAPscript) objects to HTML pages that might contain links to other documents. For external documents like Microsoft Office documents or HTML pages, a documentation parameter covers the dynamic (user-specific) part of the document path.
Solution Builder components
Solution Editor
The focus of the Solution Editor is creating or importing a solution, as well as defining its scope and personalizing it.
Usually you import the desired solution file in the form of an XML file into your SAP system first. This solution file contains the business scenarios and building blocks.
In a next step, you upload the installation data files into your SAP system. These files contain the configuration data for a specific country and release.
You use the Application Area Editor in the Solution Editor to assign the scenarios to application areas. This determines how the scenarios are presented in the solution map during the graphical scoping.
You then have the option of scoping, that is, selecting business scenarios on a detailed level. You can define a solution scope directly in a standard solution or using the graphical scoping engine. This engine allows the definition of a customer solution based on a standard solution using selection templates with predefined entry-level scopes.
After the graphical scoping, you enter a solution ID and a description and save your new customer solution.
A further, optional step after scoping is personalization of the organizational structure. This structure is displayed graphically and can be adapted directly in the graphical view. You can use the SAP Best Practices documentation adaptation assistant to update the business process documentation with your personalized values. Specify the folder with the personalized installation data files downloaded from the solution builder. A list of default values and their personalized values can be checked in a mapping document.
As a last step, you can download the installation data files from the solution builder to your local folder to ensure that the changed organizational structure is used during the activation of the SAP Best Practices package.
It is also possible to activate a solution or scenario based on existing installation data in the SAP system. For that, choose the option Use internal data in the activation settings. Selecting this option also enables you to activate the mass activation of BC Sets, that is, the activation of all BC Set records in a variant file at one time.
Finally you implement your solution scope in the Implementation Assistant.
Implementation Assistant
You use the Implementation Assistant to activate solutions and scenarios, as well as to manage a solution at scenario level.
In the Solution View of the Implementation Assistant, you can activate your favorite solution and access the respective logs. All scenarios of this solution and their related building blocks are displayed here.
The Scenario Edit Viewof the Implementation Assistant displays all the scenarios of your standard solutions listed in the Solution Editor. You can select or deselect building blocks with reference to a single scenario, attach or detach documents, and maintain additional information related to a scenario, such as pricing parameters.
Building Block Builder
You use the Building Block Builder to create and change building blocks. The Solution View of the Building Block Builder provides an overview of all the buildings blocks of your current favorite solution. The Scenario View of the Building Block Builder displays all the building blocks of your standard solutions listed in the Solution Editor. The building blocks are ordered by number and in the scenario view also by country version.
Every building block is subdivided into folders that comprise the specific tasks, such as a BC Set, an eCATT, or a manual step. You can create and maintain folders and tasks according to your requirements. For example, you can add your own customizing steps and master data to a building block, or change existing data.
Activities
To access the solution builder for SAP Business All-in-One in your SAP system, enter the transaction code /n/SMB/BBI and choose Enter.
