/AFS/BAPI_MAT_BOM_MAINTAIN - BAPI for maintenance of Material BOM

Functionality

You use this method to maintain a Bill of Material (BOM) for an AFS or non-AFS material. The functions possible with this method are:

• Creation of a material BOM

• Change of items in a material BOM

• Addition and deletion of items in a material BOM

Limitations

• You cannot change any header data for the BOM.

• You cannot create an alternative BOM for an existing BOM. But any existing alternative BOM can be modified.

• You cannot clear any existing field data for the BOM items. You can only change the values or input new values to the fields.

• You cannot change the item category, item number or component of an item that already exists in the system.

Note

• The system identifies the item to be changed using the fields ITEM_CATEGORY, ITEM_NUMBER, COMPONENT and SORTSTRING.

• If the BOM contains more than one entries with the above field combination, then you see the error message Item cannot be identified uniquely.

• If the error message Item cannot be changed appears in the log, this can be for the following reasons:

• The item is not valid on the valid-from date, it becomes valid at a later date.

• The item has already been changed on the same valid-from date with a different change number.

• To delete an item, you must identify it as described above for the change function and set the field BOM_ITEMS-UPDATE_INDICATOR as D.

• If you set the field BOM_INDICATORS-CREATE_BOM to X and if the system cannot find the BOM you want to change, then it creates a new BOM.

• Items can only be created if sufficient data exists to do this. The system ignores items with a deletion indicator when creating a BOM.

• If you set the field BOM_ITEMS-UPDATE_INDICATOR to blank or N, the system creates a new item if it cannot find the item with the identification entered.
