Functionality

This service enables a calling application such as an activity, user interface, or custom application to issue an application lock on business transaction documents (BTDs) in SAP Auto-ID Infrastructure (SAP AII).

This service can be used to ensure data integrity in SAP AII by locking BTDs before allowing them to be updated. Before calling an update service, the calling party should use this service to lock the BTDs to be updated. If the objects cannot be locked, then the update service should not be called.

It is the responsibility of the service user to call the locking service before calling any update service and to resolve the resulting lock appropriately.

The BTD external ID is the input parameter for this service.

Example

If you write your own custom activity to be called in an inbound or outbound scenario, you can use this service to lock the processed BTDs before accessing them.

Interaction with BTD unlock service

Every lock created by this service exists until it is resolved by a call to the BTD unlock service, or a database commit, or a rollback.

Message handling

Messages generated by the services are not stored in any application log. It is the responsibility of the calling application to store the application log entries in the relevant application log objects. All the messages that are generated during the service call are returned to the calling application.
