Thank You & Bye for Now......

We are trying to install the COMM Station on a 2000/NT IBM netfinity server.
Once we had all the components in place, (following the install
documentation) you start IE from the DCOM menu and click connection on the
menu bar we got an error.

ActiveX can not create object needed for connection [429]

Your option was to click ok. My problem with this is if you (you meaning the
OS) know this is a 429??? then you must know more about it? This is my first
run in with nt and spent 2 days watching the NT/expert totally winging it.
Reinstall, uninstall, start service, stop service, reboot reboot reboot
reboot try this try that go here go there! OSS popped on to the box with
PCanywhere and he winged it for a while.

Solution start from scratch, so will this work? I don't know!

I am certain that the OS400 would at least give us a clue as to what [429]
is. Don't get me wrong I have done some winging on the OS400 in my time but
I always can call software support which in my opinion is the best there is.
With NT I think somebody did a search on tech net. I guess your on your own.

ps:

I told them once we get this thing working we better do a complete back up,
and was told we don't have a back up solution yet??

Along these lines! I'm sitting in on a CRM install on NT. So far I've
witnessed 30+ restarts and the one show stopping error keeps coming up. I
asked if they could look at the joblogs and they said HUH? So we are
formatting the box and starting over.

Hi Rose,

First, thanks also to you for your contributions to the list. Hopefully,
you make it back to the right side of the tracks soon.

As for being a UNIX admin., I suggest a few things to help you fit in:
1. Remember, you are god. (of course all other UNIX admins are as well, but
heck, there can be more than one god!).
2. When people question you, or your decisions, refer to point #1
3. The UNIX platform is the only real platform. All other architectures are
just longing to be like UNIX.
4. When people question your systems, or tell you that you can administer
the same sized systems with a fifth of the support personnel on, say,
iSeries400, refer to point #3
5. Remember, you are god. (although this has already been listed, you need
an overwhelming enormous ego to fit in with your new colleagues, so keep
reminding yourself).

I apologize if I offended any UNIX admins out there with this attempt at
humor. But, as we all know, you will simply dismiss any comments from an
iSeries400 peasant anyway! 😉

Sarcastically yours,
Mike D. Martin

Hello and Thank You,

I would like to thank everyone for their help and guidance in the questions
I
have sent to the group. This mailing list has not only helped me solve
issues
but I also learned a great deal from other questions/problems that the rest
of
the group had. It is a wonderful tool and a world of knowledge.

I have decided to explore the SAP Unix world......... yes........ I'm
venturing
over to the dark side!. In Canada there are a lot more Unix and NT Basis
jobs
than AS/400, and I need to get some version 4.x experience. I think it's
going
to be a culture shock for me, I've been working on the S/38 & AS/400's for
14
years!

If there are any former Unix guru's out there that can give me a heads
up....
please do (my present email will be valid until 12:00 noon Friday). I'm
going
to re-subscribe to the list in my new capacity...... I want to stay in the
AS400
loop, and for the SAPTech meetings!

Again, Thank You to all of you!
