Heterogeneous setup

Hi Mick and Kurt,

you were not able to run AS/400 and NT in one SAP-system. That means the
database on AS/400 and the APPL-servers on NT, but this begins to change
with the 4.6C ASCII solution now, there this will be possible.

But Mick is asking for 3 different SAP systems. It is in general supported
to have to DEV + TST system on NT and the PRD system on AS/400. As the only
thing that is shared, are parts of the /usr/sap/trans, only here you can
expect problems. The export-data files are on any platform in ASCII, but
there are several files that are in EBCDIC and there the problem of codepage
conversion occurs because it is not possible to distiguish these files by
the extension.
As we got to the same problems when supporting the NT-APPL-Server for
AS/400, we found out that there is a solution for this problem with a lot of
ugly NFS-mounts on AS/400 and then you can use the AS/400 NetServer to
access the data on the AS/400 binary. Unfortunately I can't find the note at
the moment (it may be that it doesn't exist at the moment). When you are
interested in this you can send a mail to me, then I will have a look.

On the other hand I know that several customers are using such an
environment. They seem to use the /usr/sap/trans on NT with QNTC shares.
Unfortunately I have no complete idea how this is exactly configured.

But when you have solved these "standard"-issues, it should run smoothly.

Regards

Volker
