Co-exist SAP with Legacy System
Hi Mick,I assume you already have your AS/400 running a green-screen
application. In order to do that you quite likely have a QINTER
subsystem runnning with the *INTERACT or maybe a shared memory pool.
Also, for green-screen application you normally have the performance
adjustment set to anything but 0.
If that is the case you quite likely will run into a problem as SAP is a
rather "memory hungry" system with requires all the memory (or at least
most of it) to be allocated to the *BASE pool and performance adjustment
to be set to 0 (no automatic adjustment).
This might work on a smaller system as long as you have a fixed amount
of memory allocated to the *INTERACT pool to accomodate your
green-screen users. Again, depending on the number of users you have,
the number of batch jobs they submit or run and the number of printouts
they do from the green-screen application you should probably have to
increade the main memory. From the memory you have in your AS/400 you
should use as much as possible for the SAP application. For your
*INTERACT memory you will have to "play around" a bit to see what your
response times for your green-screen users is. You need to do some
tuning until that response time is acceptable. Also watch the runtimes
for batch jobs. For QBATCH and QPGMR you probably need a fixed memory
size as shared pools would not work for you without the performance
adjustment set to automatic.
In order to provide some more detailed information we would need to know
more about your current system, number of users and an idea about the
number of transaction you have in green-screen and SAP. Also intersting
would be your planned SAP landscape.

Betreff: Co-exist SAP with Legacy System
Hi All
We are planning to move into SAP, however with a tight
budget to work with, I was tasked to investigate if we
could co-exist the legacy application with SAP in one
single box.
Here is my questions
I know very well that the beauty and friendliness of
this box certainly encourages cohabitation but are
there any other operational aspects that I may need to
consider ?
Have anyone of you have had this setup and running
perfectly and what are the disadvantages ??
thanks & regards
mick
