Nice news for iSeries and AS/400

This is of course a nice White Paper if you like iSeries, which I do. I just
find it a little hard to believe. I don't think TCO calculations are an
industry standard and it would be interesting to see which elements they
included. Over 90% seems just a little exaggerated and 58% on Unix in large
companies seems like a lot. Too me this looks more as some marketing
material from IBM, which it of course can't be...
IBM supplied IDC with a list of sites to choose from, the report doesn't say
whether this list was complete or just some sites chosen by IBM.
The White Paper is of course interesting to read, I just don't think I can
use it to very much even though I agree on most of the conclusions.
Don't just read the summary which is completely wrong. For instance it
states that the TCO is 95% lower on iSeries than on SIAS for small companies
- it is TCO that is 95% higher on the SIAS servers, which makes a big
difference (this is rather obvious, but the other percentages are not that
obvious).

Hi fellow SAP R/3 - iSeries, AS/400 people

IDC has just publisched a new White Paper: Server Costs of Ownership in ERM
Customer Sites. (ERM = SAP, J. D. Edwards, MAPICS, BAAN etc.)

This white paper concludes that: Quote:This study shows that the iSeries
enjoys significantTCO advantages versus two of the most widely types of
servers running ERM applications: in a five year calculation iSeries showed
91% TCO improvement over Unix and 95% TCO over Intel-compatible servers
running NT, WIN2000, Novel, Unix and Linux)

Emne: Re: Instalation of SAP on AS/400 in middle-east

Hi there,

I have completed 8 installations on AS400 in Turkey. I
have also upgraded those systems. I have also
installed SAP for the pharmaceutical companies which
manufacture and distribute medicine.

Now, if your question is SAP on AS/400 running or not,
I can say there is not any problems running on AS400.
If your question is the satisfaction of the customers,
they are satisfied with the product.

The harware is a technical issue. One of my
pharmaceutical customer was using AS400. Due to
hardware costs they have chosen Compaq boxes.

Do not hesitate to contact with me for further
discussions. You can contact with me via either my
sap.com address or consolut.
