I can ping and FTP to sapserv4 now. Andy, give it another try, and let me
know if you still can't get the file.

We cannot ping either SAPSERV3 AND/OR SAPSERV4 either; I was just getting
ready to enter a message thru SAP marketplace
Sounds like the SAPSERV*'s might be down for all

It turns out my ISDN isn't working again so I can't FTP to sapserv4. Does
anyone have the
SAVR3SYS save file handy? If so, could you please send it to
andy.quaasZs...?

Thanks in advance,
Andy

R/3 note no. 86305 18.09.2001 Page 1
________________________________________________________________________

Number 0086305
Version 0045 from 04.04.2001
Status Released for customer
Set by SAP AG on 04.04.2001

Language EN
Short text AS/400: Command SAVR3SYS

Administrator SAP AG
Component BC-DB-DB4 DB2 for AS/400
________________________________________________________________________

Long text

Symptom

1. In the documentation "BC R/3 Database Guide: DB2/400" (prior to
Release 4.5B "BC-SAP-Database administration: DB2/400"), you are
referred to the command SAVR3SYS. However, you cannot find this
command.

2. You are using the IBM product BRMS and want to use the SAVR3SYS
command within BRMS to guarantee that the "save-while-active"
checkpoint is reached.

3. Command SAVR3SYS terminates with error message SAP0903 and reason
code 2.

The message states that the remote execution of a command on server
'CALL QBFCDBBK (...)' failed. A connection to the server could not be
established.

4. The following error message is displayed: EXPDATE not valid for
parameter EXPDATE.
Additional key words
SAVR3SYS, DSCR3SYS, RCNR3SYS, BRMS, iSeries

Cause and preconditions

1. The command SAVR3SYS was developed externally. It was not available
when your R/3 System was delivered.

2. The new commands Disconnect R/3 System (DSCR3SYS) and Reconnect R/3
System (RCNR3SYS) were developed for "save-while-active" save
operations using BRMS. The current version of module RCNR3SYS is of
July 21st, 1999, older versions cause problems with Reconnect.

3. The termination with error message SAP0903 in the job log only occurs
if you have started the command SAVR3SYS on a 3-tier system with
active remote instances.

4. The EXPDATE error message is caused by a program error which is
corrected with the SAVR3SYS version from 12 August (module
SAVR3SYSC).

5. The commands SAVR3SYS, DSCR3SYS and RCNR3SYS are only up-to-date on
sapservX. They have partly been shipped with the 4.6C kernel. These
Page 2

versions contain errors. You have to replace these versions as
described in this Note. A warning may appeare that newer objects are
replaced with older objects. You have to ignore this massage.

The OS/400 release must be V4R1M0 or higher.

Current PTFs must be on the AS/400 system so that you can use SAVR3SYS
(for information on loading the PTFs, see Note 98222). You can find the
list of PTFs in IBM's Info APAR and more information in Note 83292.
At present (17 September 1999), especially the following PTFs are
affected:

- V4R1M0 - PTF SF57110

- V4R2M0 - PTF SF57111

- V4R3M0 - PTF SF57112

Your downward-compatible kernel must have the latest patch level. For
more information, see Notes 105015 and 127594.

Solution
The command SAVR3SYS is available via sapservX. A new version was
created on 17 September 1999. If you downloaded the command at an
earlier point in time, you must update your version by downloading
again.

Problems currently identified:

o Table SPTH contains directories that do not exist. When SAVR3SYS
is called with parameter IFS(*SPTH), an error occurs.

o If a path name in table SPTH ends with a slash, it will not be
saved (message CPD3775 in the job log). A correction is planned,
but is not available at the moment. The "/" at the end of the path
can be omitted temporarily, that is, path name /usr/sap/trans
should be entered instead of /usr/sap/trans/.

o If you call SAVR3SYS again after it has terminated, you get the
error message: "Database switch is [in] progress. System cannot be
saved."

o If you use parameter REFDATE, errors might occur with the save
commands due to an incorrect date format.

o In 3-tier environments the error CPD0020 occurs with active
instances due to a missing quotation mark in the character string
''CALL QBFC'.

o When the command SAVR3SYS is called in 3-tier environment, errors
occur. Among other things, the application servers are not
disconnected correctly.
Page 3

o SQL0901 errors with the following text occured: "Other error:
Rollback forced by online backup." These are corrected with kernel
patch 283 for Releases 3.1I, patch 411 for Release 4.0B, LIB_DBSL
patch 0.089 for Release 4.5B and in the standard as of Release
4.6.

Since the errors only occur in old versions, update your version.

To load the commands into your kernel library, execute the following
command:

APYR3FIX SID(<SID>) SAVF(QTEMP/SAVR3SYS) SAVLIB(SAVR3SYS)
GETSAVF(*YES) FROMDIR('general/R3server/patches/COMMON/OS400/')

Then log on as QSECOFR and carry out the following commands:

CHGOBJOWN OBJ(SAVR3OBJS) OBJTYPE(*PGM) NEWOWN(QSECOFR)
CHGPGM PGM(SAVR3OBJS) USRPRF(*OWNER)
GRTOBJAUT OBJ(SAVR3OBJS) OBJTYPE(*PGM) USER(*PUBLIC) AUT(*USE)

Backup with BRMS

The following information applies only to backups that are made when the
R/3 System is running (online backups). To back up the data library with
BRMS, you have to select "save-while-active" by specifying *SYNCLIB.

Direct use of the SAVR3SYS commands in BRMS does not make sense. We
recommend instead that you use similar logic to below in the Backup
Control Group:

010 DSCR3SYS
020 SAV IFS
030 MONSWABRM of the library in order to do a RCNR3SYS
040 SAVLIB LIBRARY

o The command DSCR3SYS forces all R/3 jobs to reach a COMMIT
boundary within 5 minutes. This may happen of its own accord if a
job is already at a COMMIT boundary or reaches one within 5
minutes. If not, a job is forced to a COMMIT boundary by means of
a ROLLBACK. At the end of the 5 minutes, all R/3 jobs have reached
a COMMIT boundary and have to wait until the command RCNR3SYS is
executed.

o The command MONSWABRM executes the given command as soon as the
save-while-active checkpoint is reached.

o The command RCNR3SYS signals to all R/3 jobs that work can
continue immediately. If you want to be on the safe side, you can
add an additional user exit with the command RCNR3SYS SID(<SID>)
to the backup control group after the entry for saving the data
library. If the command RCNR3SYS is really executed twice, the
second call is returned the message BFC0007, which can be ignored
in this case.

The commands DSCR3SYS and RCNR3SYS are R/3 commands. To avoid
Page 4

authorization problems, these should be executed under the user profile
<SID>OFR or a privileged user. To set the library list, call program
R3<SID>400/R3INLPGM, rather than directly specifying the kernel library
name:

CALL PGM(R3<SID>400/R3INLPGM)

The commands DSCR3SYS and RCNR3SYS use IBM program QBFCDBBK. For more
information on this program or on error messages that start with BFC and
are issued by this program, see the IBM documentation.
