Hi Clyde,

Did you ever find a sollution for this problem ?

I thinka lot of us would like to know the sollution

Kind regards

Hi Clyde,

As spoken with Volker Güldenpfennig I have implemented a CHGJOB just before
the CPYF where I change the parameter DDMCNV and set it to *DROP then the
connection to the other system gets disconnected. We are well aware that
this is a general change to an R/3 workprocess -

As to the file size/ammount of data - weel in all the cases I have I need
the total file - so that is no problem.

Can you give me an example of how to write an ABAP that does a copy of a
file reciding on another AS400.

Regards
Klaus Lindegaard

Hello Klaus,
Have you thought about using CPI-C.

I think you may continue to have problems with the work process keeping the
file open, the CMNW job keeping the work process running. R/3 used to have
the same thing happen with RFC. When an ABAP would perform and RFC, it
would stay in the work process. Now it swaps out of the work process until
the RFC call returns.

If you use CPI-C or DDM, this will still happen to a certain extent.
However, the conversation length will be much shorter with CPI-C than DDM.
In the old days, when we did a comm trace to compare CPI-C (or APPC) and
DDM, the CPI-C trace was sometimes 100s of lines shorter. It is also
possible that when you use DDM, all rows of a table could be returned over
the comm link for each access just because of how DDM works. If you use
CPI-C, the database work only happens on the target server and hopefully,
only the required data is returned.

Best regards,
Alan

Hi Jim,

You can see that on the DDM file description. It is an option on the CRTDDMF

Klaus: I believe we're doing DDM over I/P. Is that a better solution for
you?

Hi All,

DDM file makes work process run and run forever until R3 stops

I have discovered a problem with DDM files and R/3 work processes (and AS400
in general)

Here is the case:

I have two AS400 mashines one lets call it SAP and one lets call it RPG
(with old systems and files on)

When I want to read a file from SAP that recides on RPG one can use DDM
files - this all works fine but ----

As most old AS400 technicians know you need a line/controler and device to
connect to the other maschine.

To make this you most connect a mode (by default you can use the IBM
supplied mode BLANK)

This mode normaly is set to have max 8 conversations running.

This was my problem - suddently someone tried to open a ninth DDM session to
RPG from inside SAP (a embeder CPYF in an ABAB) - then the work proces
"hangs" (runs and runs).

Problem is that a workprocess (job) does not release such a session until
the job (workprocess) ends - so when all 8 are used the workprocess "stops"
with status ICFW - this status meaning waiting for a free session - but this
does not occur until R/3 stops.

Fast sollution is to change the mode description to something higher then 8
(max value is 512) - better sollution is to implement a CHGJOB DDMCNV(*DROP)
in the abap.

Klaus Lindegaard
