Moving SAP 3.1i from an OS/400 v4r3 to v4r5 machine

Matt,
I did some system copies (4.6 A/B but not earlier versions) between
different AS/400 using the SAP homogeneous system copy guide. However,
just using that guide caused me some problems with the restore of the
r3<sid>data library. Ensure you go through the notes listed in the
system copy guide. Some of them could be relevant for you.
1) The first thing to ensure is that you save your data library with
access path *YES. Not doing that causes the installation to fail as
R3SETUP starts journaling after the restore whilst the operating system
is still rebuilding the access paths. It had caused me some system
copies to fail.
2) Copy your kernel library over as well and replace the one that is
being created by R3SETUP (most likely an older version then the one you
have running).
3) I also deleted the SQL packages and had them rebuild on the new
system. I'm not quite sure if that is needed any longer.
4) Check if note 66985 applies to your situation. It is important if you
change the <sid> on the new system as you would have to update the
system tables accordingly.
5) Check your profile parameter to ensure they use the new host names
6) Check your printer configuration as they might still point to the old
host name as well.

Other then that I did not have any other problems. The system copy guide
is very detailed and basically lists all the various steps you should
follow.

Gerd

I'm not familiar with the note, but I assume it says something about
needed
a new license.

I/P addresses changing?
System names changing?
SAPLOGON needing maintenance?

Hope it goes well! Are you using FTP? 3480/3570/3590? If it is
critical,
we initialized the tapes with the CLEAR option, I believe, to spin all
the
way through them the first time, then cleaned the drives several times.

We will set up the new box with the same host name and IP address as
the
old machine. I like the tip for using the CLEAR option and cleaning the
drives is always good advice.

Matt
