For those that are interested, my client is currently using the new
Internet Connection to SAP - had a little trouble with the SNC setup but
finally fixed. We no longer have to rely on our Frame or ISDN connections.
SAP can also use this for remote consulting.

Hi all

Do anyone know if it's possible to opload - for instance kernel
patches from a frontend to the AS/400???

We are running SAPrel 4.6C

Thanks!

Kind regards

Hi Susanne,

you can either download the patches via sapservX (outdated, because it will
be stopped soon) or (better) download them via the SAP-Service-Marketplace
via http://service.sap.com to your PC. Then you would have to create a SAVF
on AS/400 as follows:
crtsavf qgpl/kernel

Then you can use ftp from your PC to the AS/400 and transfer the file in
binary mode into this SAVF.

Then you can apply the patch as you are used to with APYR3FIX ( with
GETSAVF(*NO) ):
APYR3FIX SID(<SID>) SAVF(QGPL/KERNEL) SAVLIB(GEN46DEOPT)
KRNLIB(*CURRENT / <other lib>) GETSAVF(*NO)

Volker

Volker,

Do you have an estimated target date for SAPSERVx being dropped?
Does this mean we will no longer be required to have a frame relay
line for access?

Best regards,
Robert Clay

Hi Robert,

that's right. My information is that then an internet-connection will be
sufficient.
They told by "the end off this year"!
But I don't think that soon, as nobody told e.g. me by now how to use the
new system. I think there has to be a lot of testing of the functionality
and then all customers have to become time to change there connections and
SAP has to change it on our site as well.

I can't believe we would no longer need the frame relay to OSS. What
about remote connections for SAP to check out things on our system? Or
what about earlywatch?
As it is easier for any patches or support packages to be downloaded
from the market place I doubt we can get rid of the comms line
altogether.

Hi Gerd,

that is exactly that, what I meant with "training and education" on SAPs
site. They plan to make such things through the internet as well. And to
deliver this to the customers, setup etc. will take some time.

So, in the end, you hopefully get a benefit in money as you can drop one
expensive (and useless) line.

As the marketplace is already a time active, every customer with a big
bandwidth to the internet can already now benefit on the patch delivery
over
the internet marketplace.

Regards

Volker

Klaus,
You are absolutely right. It does not matter when you download something
from the marketplace (daytime, nighttime weekend) I hardly ever achieve
a better then 20KB transfer rate. At least during off hours I would have
expected a faster connection.
However, it still beats my "joked-down" comms line I have to SAP, which
unfortunately does not allow more then 8KB transmission rate. I only use
that line for remote support and would be very happy when it goes away.

Hi Volker,

We were encountering the error at 9pm on Saturday
I did not do as much research as I would have liked, due to the time of
day.

The ST22 ABAP DUMPS READ as follows
DBIF_RSQL_SQL_ERROR
SQL error "-904" occurred when accessing table "ZMATP "
Database error text........: "Resource limit exceeded.

Using the information above; found OSS note 54028
Checked the size of the SQL package for ZMATP in lib R3P01X0000 & found it
to be almost 509,000,000

Deleted the sql package & had to down SAP; then all was well

Hi Doreen,

are you really sure, that you are observing here SQL0904 with the reason
code 7 ?
Since V4R5 and PTFs around january the system should itself supersede "old"
SQL-Packs, so that the 512 MB SQL-Packs can no longer overflow.

Hi Doreen,

when you observe this problem the next time, you should have a ook to the
joblog in order to find the reasoncode.
I hope it is not 7, even when it sounds like this because of the size of
509MB.

Hi Doreen,

are you really sure, that you are observing here SQL0904 with the reason
code 7 ?
Since V4R5 and PTFs around january the system should itself supersede "old"
SQL-Packs, so that the 512 MB SQL-Packs can no longer overflow.

Regards

Volker

We have trouble on downloading hotpackages from SAP marketplace. For the
files size of xxMB, it always stops at the middle and I have to download
them from sapserverX. The marketplace are very slow. Our internet
connection
and firewall protection should be partially blamed. But I think the
efficiency and reliability of marketplace should be improved. We are using
IE5.

Hi Susanne,

you can either download the patches via sapservX (outdated, because it will
be stopped soon) or (better) download them via the SAP-Service-Marketplace
via http://service.sap.com to your PC. Then you would have to create a SAVF
on AS/400 as follows:
crtsavf qgpl/kernel

Then you can use ftp from your PC to the AS/400 and transfer the file in
binary mode into this SAVF.

Then you can apply the patch as you are used to with APYR3FIX ( with
GETSAVF(*NO) ):
APYR3FIX SID(<SID>) SAVF(QGPL/KERNEL) SAVLIB(GEN46DEOPT)
KRNLIB(*CURRENT / <other lib>) GETSAVF(*NO)

Volker

Hello Ricardo!

First of all, you are using the oldest 4.6D kernel-CD that exists and it
will not be possible to update ot the latest kernel with this CD.

Did you read carefully the note 318846 and downloaded the new version of
LODR3KRN before and used ADDLIBLE of the lib LODR3KRN before ? Only then
you
can use the new CD. The LODR3KRN of 4.6B won't work! The installation works
fine with this CD, even if it is very old.

You should order imediately the CD 51014168 with the patch 543 and then you
can use sapserv to update to the latest patch (e.g. 829).

Regards

Volker
