Maximum length for SAP host names
Hi all,In the System Installation manuals for 4.5B and 4.6B in the section
Configuring TCP/IP it states that the hostname cannot be longer than 8
characters.

Bill,
Keep hostnames at 10 or less characters. Make sure your CFGTCP opt 12 and
opt 10 (and/or other host tables on name servers) are consistent because
upper/lower case differences can cause problems. Reconcile with the
various SAP profile values as well.
When renaming, you may need to manually recreate QFileSvr.400/<hostname>
directories on your systems.
I'm assuming you found the OSS notes regarding name changes...

Hi all,
It looks like I am going to have to rename the
AS/400's here for a standard naming convention.
My question is is there a maximum length for the
various SAP names?
For example, the dbservername in
/usr/sap/trans/.sapconf?
Or the SAPDBHOST?
Or the rdisp/mshost?
