Stream file ownership
Hey Jim and Volker,If I read between the lines correctly (notes 88452,68718,etc.), I think
Jim's order is correct (somewhere it says 664 is same as rw-rw-r). Does 7
designate ownership? Probably not if that earlier reference to 077 is valid.
Volker mentioned doing this in the ABAP. I don't see a place on "open
dataset" for that. Is there another opcode (like set install/ucode or
something) that I would do around this? We have 8 programs that generate
these stream files (extracts for a discount management system) and doing the
same coding procedure in 8 places sounds a lot less dangerous than a
universal setting. If I could even remember the password for SAP01, it might
be easier to just use that in the ftp script but the challenge is on ....
What I really want is for the group profile to become the owner of all
objects created by SAP01 like it does if I create a "regular" object on the
iSeries (OWNER in the user profile is set to *GRPPRF). However any new
tricks for this old dog are welcome.
Thanks,
Rick

Subject: Re: RE: Stream file ownership
My UNIX friend gave me notes in a different order:
- the owner, group, and PUBLIC are in same order
- read=4, write=2, execute=1
So umask 754 =
Owner = 7 = 4 + 2 + 1 (read + write + execute)
Group = 5 = 4 + 1 (read + execute)
Public = 4 (read)
A question that I never had answered: does this apply to stream files only,
or to database files, too? We have some utilities that read SAP files, and
we want to have PUBLIC have *USE authority on the DB files. But anything
new created, or after SE14 maintenance, I believe, PUBLIC is reset to
*EXCLUDE.
