SPAM Updates
You are correct on all accounts....I've always assumed the interpretation below
SPAM = 'S' Support 'PA' Package 'M' Manager
SPAM patches will remain the same patch indentifier for the release
So SAPKD00040 will always be the latest SPAM (similar to KERNEL typically being
the lastest kernel patches)

Subject: SPAM Updates
I'm cleaning up a test install of 46C by apply some hot packs. I
attempted to apply the lastest BASIS packs including SAPKB46C22, and
got an error saying I need version 0028 of the Support Package
Manager. This is the same as SPAM isn't it?
On SAPNET the lastest version listed is patch SAPKD00040 labeled 46C
Version 0028. Well I had already loaded and applied SAPKD00040 some
time back and I have version 0026. Are they keeping the same patch
number but revising the version number? And if they are why would
they do that for SPAM and use different patch numbers for hot packs?
Can someone clarify.
The group has decided in January 2000
to be free of recruiting and other SPAM!
Violaters will be banned from the group.
