V5R1 Problem - can't establish Opti Connect co nnection

It didn't seem to be advertised at all that Optimover was not going to
function on V5R1. I searched the IBM site high and low after our problem,
including the section on V5R1 software, and I couldn't find anything about
it going away. This happened to us last weekend when we were updating our
sandbox and the only reason I hadn't left a message out here was because we
were trying to recover from it. We got mixed responses from IBM support,
some of them knew about it and some of them didn't. The main clue on what
was going on came from the QSOC and the autostart job that it runs. The
joblog from the SOCMGR job actually gave us the message that said OPTION 23
needed to be loaded and it got us to the right person at a higher support
level at IBM to say that Optimover had been discontinued. When we got the
full blown Opticonnect loaded it ran just fine although we had to make a
couple of adjustments to our QSTRUP job concerning the QSERVER, QSYSWRK, and
QUSRWRK subsystems.

Franz,

Are you using the full opticonnect version (5769ss1 option 23) or the
trimmed down optimover software (5799fwq)? Many companies, like ours, opted
for the cheaper optimover software than the much more expensive full blown
opticonnect.

I heard that optimover is no longer supported V5R1, that you would have to
upgrade to option 23 or if you are on an 8xx series machine, move to a
gigabyte ethernet card. What "supported" actually means I'm not sure. That
is whether it just won't work under V5R1 or whether it will work but won't
be "supported" by IBM if problem occurs.

Just a thought,
Rich

Hi Bernd,

yes, we tried deleting and recreating the CTL + DEV describtions - doesn't
help.
Meanwhile the problem appears to be caused because on all four machines the
SOCMGR doesn't start when sbs QSOC is started. No idea why.
PTFs are all checked so far. Not sure if RCLSTG would help or would make it
better. Even the cracks at IBM hotlines are not sure if we have a HW or a SW
problem. Thanks again.

Regards,
Franz

Hi,
If you're currently just waiting and hoping for IBM Support and
don't find
any APARs/Fixes you might try a RCLSTG in the meantime. The
defective
desciptions will hopefully be sent into bardo. I don't have any
experience
with OptiConnect, but you probably did try deleting and recreating
the
description?

Best
Bernd
