Offline or Online backup ?

Hi Karl,

yes, I'm talking about "save while active" with 30-60 minutes wait time.
This backups a consistent database, where you don't need journal-receiver if
you don't want to do a point-in-time recovery for consistency.

Regards

Volker

Subject: AW: Offline or Online backup ?

Hi Volker,
I take this approach since our starting with SAP. The intention was, to have
a complete save every day in the case of a recovery situation.
And yes, you'r right, we have a loss of performance.
But what would you suggest how to change this program ?
I read Matt's and Doreen mail today about recovery only using backup tapes.
I always thought, the easiest way is to have a complete backup.
But I common, what approach would be recommended:
Using savr3sys, save while active or whatelse ?

BTW: I'v just upgraded a copy of our 4.0b system to 4.6c with minimal
problems. We'r planning to upgrade the production system
starting may, 9th.

Greetings
Karl

Hi Karl,

why do you stop your SAP system for bakcup at all?
You lose the complete buffer contents and all ODPs every night. You lose
performance of your system with more or less no advantage.
