Hi all,

as perhaps a lot of you may know:
SAP offers OSS connection via sapserv2 via the internet since quite a while.

The advantages are that you can use your high network-bandwidth of your internet
connection and that you can get rid of the extra money for the OSS connection.
AND: You needn't care for the hours of the open connection when you are having a
permanent internet connection anyway. Then you won't pay more for this than
before.

What are the disadvantages?
You can no longer use ftp to sapservX. So, all data that is ONLY available there
is not accessible for you. But, SAP is working hard on making it happen, that
new patches are going to the Service Marketplace and no longer to sapserv (e.g.
r3trans-files for notes).

Have a look to note 567853:
http://intranet.sap.com/~IRON/FM/011000358700000431401997E/0567853E
(Please use the following described call:
CALL PGM(SAPGENPSE) PARM('seclogin' '-p' 'local.pse' '-O' '<user_for
_saprouter>')
ONLY in the following way:
CALL PGM(SAPGENPSE) PARM('seclogin' '-p' 'local.pse')
!!!
Otherwise, you will run into problems, because there seems to be a bug in
there.)

If you don't want to put your iSeries into the internet, you can install the
sapcryto lib on any other platform of your choice as well. But, have a look on
the advantages!

For the full conversion you need a fix ip-adress in the internet, in order that
SAP can reach your SAProuter via the internet. If you just want to have a very
fast accces to the OSS, you could configure it just for yourself on any internet
connection - even with changing IP-adresses - so that only
you go to SAP to the OSS this way, but all incoming connections from SAP still
would run via your old configuration. It's up to you!

Regards

Volker
