Migration question

Thanks, Volker, and you have the right for some leisure time just like the
rest of us!

Found out that documentation is misleading in my case and I need to choose
the DB2/CS option for DB2 on Win2000 in spite of the docu also saying that
ALL the DB's on Win2000 use the same template file and thus making me think
I needed the only option from that specific migration menu intended for the
Windows platform, i.e. the option for MS-SQL (the DB2/CS option is mentioned
for AIX in the docu) ... 8-(

I have no Migration experience but then customer was warned about that but
kept on pushing us to do this a.s.a.p. anyway because they want to get this
BW pilot project underway and the migration export is only needed because
the consulting company doing it doesn't have an AS400 to replicate this
customer's production system on (for BW extraction purposes) and this use of
the migration export also means it's not crucial business-wise!

I also have a colleague who underwent the OS/DB-Migration training (so he's
certified) but has never yet actually done any migrations afterwards and
ain't at home on the AS400 at all.

So you see how these things can go sometimes.

Have a nice weekend you all, Louis.

Hi Louis,

in general I would suggest an "experienced" Migration consultant.
I'm pretty uncedrtain, that MS-SQL-Server as choice works fine for DB2 UDB,
e.g. because DB2 needs tablespaces and SQL-Server doesn't.

But, good luck.

Regards

Volker

P.S.: As it is weekend now, I don't like to screw through the notes and
descriptions ...

Anyone of you experienced in migrating from iSeries to DB2 UDB on Win2000?

Trying to do this during the weekend and doing some prep I bump into
something uncertain in the docu.

The heterogeneous copy manual for 4.0B (dated July 1999) tells me on page
4-9 to choose target database and there is no proper option for what I need
(DB2 UDB on Win2000) but the text SUGGESTS that all databases running on
Windows use the same template file and therefor I probably have to choose
the option MSS-Serv (MS-SQL) for this????

Hoping that 1 of you knows from experience that choosing MS-SQL is indeed
okay for any target DB under Windows!

Thanks in advance, Louis.
