ok,then you are in good luck anyway!
You can always restore a library to a higher OS release. This parameter is ONLNY
necessary, if you want to go to a lower OS release - so I misunderstood you
before.
So, you can do the homogeneous systemcopy from your backup from last weekend and
go ahead ...

Problem I saw:
The homogeneous DB copy manual states somewhere in the general part that OS
and DB versions should be the same!
I was HOPING that for iSeries specifically this would NOT be a problem but
didn't KNOW that for a fact ... still learning lots of new things about
iSeries every day ... 😎
Problem I still have:
The offline backup made last weekend of PRD was not executed using this
parameter target-release set to the (in this case) required value of V5R2
(our PRD is still on V4R5, others on V5R2), so need to make a new offline
backup ... 8-(

where do you see a problem ?
You should get an offline backup of PRD and set as target-release to V4R5
during the SAVLIB and that's it!
If you are not able, to get an offline-backup, it becomes a bit more
complicated, but will work as well.

Question:
Think my chances are quite slim but I was wondering if I could refresh our
QAS system running on V5R2 with a fresh copy of our PRD system running on
V4R5?
Background:
In the midst of the upgrade to V5R2 project a business need has arisen for a
BW pilot for which a recent copy of the PRD system is needed as extraction
system on a different platform and in an effort not to be dependent on the
PRD downtime window to make the (migration) export for this BW project I was
thinking of refreshing QAS from PRD so the export could be made from the QAS
system but right now they are unfortunately running on different OS400
versions.
Thanks in advance, even for the possibly negative confirmation that this is
NOT possible ... 8-(
