NEW PARM ALWOBJDIF(*FILELVL) on R510
Just an fyi to the groupALWOBJDIF(*FILELVL) for R510
Document Description
New with OS/400 R510 is the *FILELVL value within the ALWOBJDIF
parameter. The *FILELVL value is available to use with the RSTLIB,
RSTOBJ, SAVRSTCHG, SAVRSTLIB, and SAVRSTOBJ commands.
*FILELVL allows control of the restore of physical file data (does not
pertain to logical files). Using ALWOBJDIF(*FILELVL) attempts to restore
physical file data for files and members when the file level ID and/or
member level ID of the physical file on the system is different than the
physical file on the media. The format level IDs of the files must
match.
Why Use ALWOBJDIF(*FILELVL)?
Using the *FILELVL parameter value attempts to restore physical file
data over the existing physical file data rather than creating duplicate
objects.
An example could be a QUSRSYS library restore from one system to
another. In the past, if there was already a QUSRSYS residing on the
target system and an attempt to do a RSTLIB QUSRSYS ALWOBJDIF(*ALL) was
performed, many duplicate objects were created. However, using the
*FILELVL parameter value restores only physical files that have matching
format level IDs from media and overwrites the current file data.
Therefore, there are no duplicate objects.
