Antwort: DR server

Hi thomas,

Your experience seems very interresting, we have planed to do about the same
thing.
Our production system runs on a 830 primary partition, and in case of disaster
we expect to switch on a 820 secondary partition. The data base is mirrored on 2
ESS including the load source mirroring. The main steps should be:
1) Copy the 830 primary partition load source on the 820 secondary partition.
2) Recovery of the load source and start the system only with load source
mirroring. The rest of mirroring disk beeing suspended.
3) Return back to the normal production system in the same way.

Could you tell us more about the problems you experienced do you see any
problems to avoid. When you had returned back, was it possible to rebuilt
mirroring after IPL? Will you use IASP in the future?

Regards

Hi Neeraj,

since last year we used VISION SOLUTION to do a mirroring.
In december we do an upgrade of our hardware now we do a hardware mirroring
on our production system 890 1TB internel disks mirrored to an ESS (in this
szenario Vision was very expensive).
In case of recovery we switch the ESS to your test system 830 an start up
with the disks in the ESS.
Last weekend we do a test of this envirnoment. It was planed to start the
backupsystem with a secondary partion and the disks from the ESS. Until now
this didn't work correctly.
So we tired of all interenal disks from the 830, do a recovery of the load
source an start the system with all disks in the ESS. Its a bit trick but
it works.
But I hope the next time it will do this with a secondary partion so this
all will be mutch easyer.
We use SAP R/3 4.6C, OS/400 V5R2.
The swith from prouction to backup takes about 2-3 ours. The way back takes
a little bit more bacause the production system had to build up the
mirroring again. This takes about 5-6 hours. In this time you can work with
the system, but the performance is very poor.

Regards
Thomas

Dear SAP on iSeries Users,

We have a single production server hosting both application and database
server (V5R1,4.6C) and are planning to have a Disaster Recovery server for
the same.

What would be the best method to replicate the production server data
initially. Will entire system backup restore suffice. Will there be any
license key issues from SAP side.Is it possible to keep the system name
same as that of prodution system. What all data should be replicated on a
daily basis considering cold backup strategy.

If anyone has implemented or in process of implementing DR strategy please
get back.
Thanks in advance for your suggestions and experiences

Regards

Neeraj Jain
