I've found it.

The solution was:
in the SAP DLM config, check the check-box that says 'use tunnelling'.

Hi Christian,

I just checked the web and found out, that currently AS/400 is again shown there
ias "not supported" whjich is an error.

I guess, you want to install 4.6C IDES ?
Then you can have a look to the attachments. Please let me know if I can help
you more (my last day today) soon.

Regards

Volker

Subject: IDES on iSeries

Hello to all,

is there anybody, who had install IDES on an iSeries?

I got an installaton kit with the DB EXPORT CD on DVD (thanks, I have no DVD
at my iSeries), and the LABEL.ASC does not fit. And the documentation also
doesn't fit (there is only documentation for W2K and Unix available). So I
followed the instructions for Unix and I changed the conted of the LABEL..ASC
to
the expected string, but it doesn't run.

Any ideas ??

Mit freundlichen Grüssen/Yours sincerely

Hello group,

We need an application server for our SAP R3 45B, that it is on a 830
with V5R1. We are looking for a new 810, but it is available only for
V5R2. Can we install an application server on V5R2 if the central db is
on a V5R1 for 45B release?

Thank you,

no problem at all, if you upgrade to a v5r2 certified kernel patch on all
servers

Christine,

We have not yet set this up so I can't offer details, but I plan to use the
QNTC file system to solve the same problem. I expect ABAP to be able to
write directly to a directory on an NT server via OPEN DATASET, etc. once we
have QNTC operational. I assume that your application is using WS_DOWNLOAD
or DOWNLOAD to transfer the files. Both of these function modules rely on
the SAPgui to perform the transfer. That's why they won't run in
background.

Hi Gang,

Our Payroll department needs to run several background jobs once a month
that pulls and reports on data dealing with Employee 401K Contributions. At
the end of the program, it should take this file and save it off to either a
local file on a PC or to a mapped network drive. When we run this program
in dialog it works successfully, but when we run it in background it fails
at the step of saving the data to a local file. Does anyone know if there
is anything that we can do to be able to run this program successfully in
the background?

Thanks,
Christine

Hi all.

We have two iSeries. One of them running SAP R/3 and the other running a
legacy system. We want to read files from this legacy system by means of
an ABAP program. We tried it using EXEC SQL over a DDM file but we
could not did it. We have already reviewed redbook SG24-4672-03 and all
examples are based on the same computer.
Is there any other way to perform it ? Considering that we have two
different computers.

Hello Orlando,
There is a table called DBCON. This is the key to your solution.

You add a row to the table dbcon with the following parameters
con_name = some name for example PRDSYS
DBMS = DB4
User = AS/400 user id (the user must exist on the target system)
Password = whatever (not interpreted)
CON_ENV = AS4_HOST=as0001;AS4_DB_LIBRARY=RMTLIB;AS4_CON_TYPE=SOCKETS;
where as0001 is the host name in the tcp/ip host name table
and RMTLIB is the name of the library that contains the table you want to
access

Then in your abap you would put something like this:

EXEC SQL. CONNECT TO PRDSYS ENDEXEC.

EXEC SQL. SET CONNECTION TO PRDSYS. ENDEXEC.

EXEC SQL.
SELECT MYFIELD FROM MYTABLE
ENDEXEC.

EXEC SQL. DISCONNECT PRDSYS ENDEXEC.

Or...

DATA con_name(30) VALUE 'PRDSYS'.

* Open the link to the database 'PRDSYS'
EXEC SQL.
CONNECT TO :con_name
ENDEXEC.
IF SY-SUBRC <> 0.
* Error handling
ENDIF.

* Execution of DB operations
EXEC SQL.
SELECT * FROM MYTABLE
ENDEXEC.

EXEC SQL.
UPDATE MYTABLE SET ... WHERE ...
ENDEXEC.

EXEC SQL.
COMMIT WORK
ENDEXEC.

* Reset to the standard R /3 link
EXEC SQL.
SET CONNECTION DEFAULT
ENDEXEC.

All of this changes a little if you are using an R/3 release prior to 4.6, but
you can look at note 146624 for other information.

Best regards,
Alan

If the three app servers were sharing the 100mb ethernet before, I don't see why

Subject: Delete background jobs after QA refresh

Hi group,

I just was wondering how you delete all the scheduled jobs (from your
production system) after you did a QA refresh?

After I have a rather large number of scheduled jobs in our
production system I would want to delete all the user jobs (but keep
the clean-up and reorg jobs) prior to starting the SAP system to
avoid that some of them become active whilst I'm in the process of
deleting them.

Is there an "easy" way on OS level that I could use before I start
SAP? I could write a program if that would be needed.

How are you dealing with this issue when you do a refresh?

Thanks for you comments.

Gerd

Hi Gerd,

I edit the profile on the 400 and set the parameter rdisp/wp_no_btc =
0 before starting the system. When I am done with deleting the batch
jobs. I set it back to the original number and stop and start the
system.

Alternately, you could go to rz10 and set the value just before
deleting the original system and then use rz10 to set it back after
importing the profiles of active servers.

Craig.

Subject: RE: 100mb ethernet 3 tier --> two tier

We went to two tier from three tier about a year ago but have recently had
to go to a three tier again. We run an 840 24 processor with two LPARs. On
one LPAR we have a 3.1i instance running and on the other a 4.6b instance.
We have around 1000 concurrent users and we recently saw the system freezing
for a minute or so at a time on the 3.1i system with all work processes
full, despite the I series running at only 25% CPU. This was checked out by
SAP and concluded that the system was saturated and that a limit had been
reached on the work processes (you can only have 68 in 3.1i in an instance)...
To get around this they created a virtual application server on the 840
which of course gave us the additional work processes. So even if you go
three tier there is an opportunity within the two tier to revert if there is
an issue. To my knowledge we haven't experienced any other issues related to
two tier.

Hi,

We are in the process of going from three tier --> two tier. We
currently have users and printing on three application servers.
Would there be, or has anyone experienced a bottleneck with the 100mb
ethernet card serving all users and all printing request in a two
tier environment? We have about 200 active users and a rather heavy
amount of printing.

Thanks,

From: Robert Clay <zreclayZconsolut.net>
Subject: Moving 4.0B systems

We are running SAP 4.0B, kernel patch 958 on iSeries V5R1. We have our
production (PRD) instance on one machine and our development (TST) and test
(QAS) instance on another.

When we first implemented SAP, we had all three instances on the PRD machine.
DASD usage was an issue at the time and a decision was made to move TST and QAS
to the other machine. We had consultants that performed this move..

We are preparing for an upgrade to the latest version of SAP. We only use FI
and CO.

Now, the time has come for the TST and QAS instances to move back to the PRD
machine. I feel certain that I can do this but I want to have an action plan
before I start.

My question concerns whether to treat the movement of the TST and QAS instances
as if they were copies or as if they were new installs (and yes, I remember the
license keys issue). Since we are at 4.0B, the installation CD and the
Installation guide are very dated. In fact, we are now using the 40B_COM kernel
and I do not know how that will impact the process.

Basically, I could either use the LODRUN command and cancel at the appropriate
point and restore the saved R3TSTDATA library from there, just like a refresh,

***OR***

I could use the CREATE COLLECTION R3<sid>DATA command and just restore the data
library and the kernel library and treat it as a restore, handling the IFS
connectivity and TMS rebuild manually.

Since PRD is already on the machine, couldn't I simply use ADDR3SYS command and
avoid all the drama associated wth the ancient CD and LODRUN?

If anyone has been through a similar situation, any advice and/or insight would
be greatly appreciated.

Robert Clay

Hello Team,

We just performed a brand new install of SAP 4.6C SR2 on an iSeries 825
with V5R2M0. The install was successful.

We then applied the patch PRDASCRTPT (as it is a pre-req to the latest 4.6D
kernel patch of DW_1444) then applied the latest Kernel patch, namely Patch
Level 1444 ... now the SAP system will not start. We are getting a
"Program Signature Violation" error on STRSAP. Details of error state "The
source program STRSAP specifies signature
X'2EF464AF1D2399B8FC8B6ED971D4A76C' which is not supported by service
program OPRTLIB".

We then applied the patch for STRSAP, same results. We restored back to
the "installed" kernel (patch level 797), SAP comes up without error.

We've tried applying ALL Kernel patches, same results. SAP will not come
up, errors on STRSAP.

Incidentally, after each scenario of patch applies above, we ran a
FIXR3OWNS and APYR3KRN (just to play it safe) ... doesn't help!!

Add'lly, per the SAP on System i HomePage, it states:

"Certification of V5R2 for SAP on iSeries
SAP certified the V5R2 with all the PTFs of
the current Infoapar for V5R2. As not all of these PTFs are approved yet,
you would have to ask IBM for getting a few of these PTFs
manually via ECS.
(May be not approved PTFs: SI05925, SI05795,
SI04904, MF29517, MF29422)
SAP currently creates the necessary
Kernel-Patches for all releases in order to get rid of the SICK error
message. But fortunately there is nothing really functional in it. So, with
all these PTFs an SAP system should run fine on V5R2"

We are getting errors in SICK stating "V5R2M0 is not compatible with 46D of
Kernel" ... per the above, it seems as long as we have all OS PTFs for
V5R2M0 applied (which we do), we should be fine to continue building our
SAP system (i.e. run client copy, load PCC, load Accel HR, apply SPs etc.)
... is this true?

I thought I remembered others having problems with Kernel Patch level 1444
however I cannot find anything in my SAP on System i Archives. Has anyone
applied Kernel Patch 1444 successfully or unsuccessfully?

We've opened OSS msg 99336 however we have not rec'd a response as of yet
therefore any help that anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Nilsa

Hi Nilsa,

I normally fix the Signature Violations by rebinding the service
program to the main program. You would do that on OS level with the
following command:

UPDPGM PGM(STRSAP) MODULE(*NONE) BNDSRVPGM(KERNELLIB/OPRTLIB)

You can check what signatures a program has with the DSPPGM STRSAP,
then press enter (4 times). On that screen you see all the bound
service programs with their resprective signatures.

You can check the signatures for service programs with command
DSPSRVPGM LIBRFC then press enter (3 times).

Using the above 2 command will show if the service program in
question exists with the correct signature on your AS/400.

I hope this will resolve your problem.

program OPRTLIB".

Has anyone setup and used a virtual optical device on iSeries? If
so, how well does this work?

Yes we have. It works extremely well. I assume you are wanting to use it
with image catalogs. There is a PTF that is required under V5R1 to use this
feature and allow an upgrade to V5R2 from image catalogs. I can't remember
the PTF, but if you search the APARs for Image Catalog you should find it.
There is one trap there - you must have at least 1Gb of free space on your
load source disk.

We currently have 5 iSeries systems to maintain, and they are housed at a
"lights-out" facility. Using image catalogs, we can pre-load CUME CDs on one
system (the images associated with an image catalog are stored in an IFS
directory) then save the images to a SAVF and use FTP to transfer to all
others. The installation process then runs without any intervention.

Hi Robert,

alway when I have to do somthing like that I use the homogenous system
copie procedure from SAP. But we are runnig 4.6C.
We use the origianl CD's and if there are problems during the installation
with the kernel, we apply the new one.

Best regards
Thomas

We are running SAP 4.0B, kernel patch 958 on iSeries V5R1. We have our
production (PRD) instance on one machine and our development (TST) and test
(QAS) instance on another.

When we first implemented SAP, we had all three instances on the PRD
machine. DASD usage was an issue at the time and a decision was made to
move TST and QAS to the other machine. We had consultants that performed
this move.

We are preparing for an upgrade to the latest version of SAP. We only use
FI and CO.

Now, the time has come for the TST and QAS instances to move back to the
PRD machine. I feel certain that I can do this but I want to have an
action plan before I start.

My question concerns whether to treat the movement of the TST and QAS
instances as if they were copies or as if they were new installs (and yes,
I remember the license keys issue). Since we are at 4.0B, the installation
CD and the Installation guide are very dated. In fact, we are now using
the 40B_COM kernel and I do not know how that will impact the process.

Basically, I could either use the LODRUN command and cancel at the
appropriate point and restore the saved R3TSTDATA library from there, just
like a refresh,

***OR***

I could use the CREATE COLLECTION R3<sid>DATA command and just restore the
data library and the kernel library and treat it as a restore, handling the
IFS connectivity and TMS rebuild manually.

Since PRD is already on the machine, couldn't I simply use ADDR3SYS command
and avoid all the drama associated wth the ancient CD and LODRUN?

If anyone has been through a similar situation, any advice and/or insight
would be greatly appreciated.

Robert Clay
