No Upgrade to 4.X - Running 3.1I Out of Mainte nance

Hi Phil,

we run 31I and planned the upgrade to 46C or enterprise at 04/2005.
Anyway here is an official statement from SAP.

........................................
following up on Henning Kagermann's announcement from Sep 26, I would like
to inform you about the key changes regarding SAP's strategy for the R/3
maintenance extension for releases 3.1I - 4.6B in 2004 regarding Business
Partners and their customers.

Following is an overview of the most important points in our maintenance
strategy. All changes are effective immediately for all maintenance
agreements (excluding SAP R/2).

Our internal and external unified message: "Support never ends"
The term "standard maintenance" has been renamed to "mainstream maintenance"

The term "out of maintenance" will no longer be used. The phase after
mainstream maintenance is now called "customer-specific maintenance."

In customer-specific maintenance, customers receive the same
maintenance services as before, with the exception of no legal changes, no
support packages, limited technology upgrades, and customer individual
problem resolution.

No restrictions exist anymore for SAP R/3 maintenance extensions in
2004. A simpler ordering process has set up in SAP Service Marketplace, and
a simplified pricing model put in place.

Summary

1. No restrictions anymore for the R/3 maintenance extension in 2004

* The Maintenance Extension Check (MEC) is eliminated with immediate
effect

* Message to Business Partners and their customers is: "Anyone who
needs the R/3 extension in 2004 can get it"

2. Simplified ordering process

* Business Partners can order with a few clicks in an easy Order form
on the SAP Service Marketplace for their customers

* Business Partners have to advice their customers NOT to use this
easy Order form by themselves.

3. Simplified Pricing will remain unaffected

* For customers of Business Partners Maintenance Extension can only be
ordered for the full year 2004

* The Business Partner will be billed with CHF 500.-- for every
installation (rules of 75% is still valid)

* Business Partners have to fill in "4 quarters" in step 1 and "100
percent of users" in step 2 of the easy Order form.

5. Customers not extending maintenance will not receive Legal
Changes and new Support
Packages in 2004

..................................................................

so it's by u to extended the maintenance or not.

Feel free to mail me, if u want the stuff.

Betreff: No Upgrade to 4.X - Running 3.1I Out of Maintenance

Hi All,

I've been asked to come up with a compelling reason our company can't
run version 3.1I for another 3 years.(yes, I just updated my resume)

Does anyone in the group still run version 3.1I?

Does anyone plan on staying on 3.1I even though extended maintenance
runs out 2004? (if you've paid your 2%)

Is there anyone that has run R/3 on an "out of maintenace" version?

Why not run on 3.1I for another 3 years?

I understand the technical ramifications(future two step
upgrades/with codepage conversion/OS maintenane running out etc.)
I think it would be a rather large mistake not upgrading to 4.X.
Does anyone have an argument against this?

What are your thoughts?

Thanks for your help,

Philip Stracener, CV Industries
