No 4.6C upgrade - Staying on 3.1I

You will have access to OSS. As long as you continue to pay maintenance, you
will get support. Period. I don't know about the strategy for supporting the
3.1 Kernel. Chris Hoelters would be able to answer that question better than I
can.

I have a hard time imagining a world, with the exception of upgrades, where I
would freeze fixes and configuration for any length of time.

Who is the rep at SAP who told you that you would not have access to OSS? Did
they mean just OSS or did they mean OSS and Service Marketplace?

SAP is committed to always supporting our customer. Just like any vendor, we
need to be paid for our time. Normally, typical support is paid for by your
software maintenance fees. That support includes hotline, service marketplace,
earlywatch, etc. When you don't pay software maintenance, we still support you,
we just have a different fee schedule for the support services.

Subject: No 4.6C upgrade - Staying on 3.1I

Hello again,

I hope not to wear out my welcome here, but I am having problems with
SAP answering my questions. They keep pointing me to
the "maintenace" alias on SSM.

8xx Systems
OS/400 r520
Kernel 3.1I_COM 705

It appears that our company has deceided to postpone our 4.6C upgrade
until Q2 2005. Which will then most likely be a 4.6C -> CPC -> 4.7.

According to SSM alias "maintenace" we will enter "Customer Specific
Maintenance" in 2005. I have been told by a rep at SAP that we will
no longer have access to OSS. Do you really think this is true?

My concern is kernel development for 3.1I. Will SAP continue to
develop kernel patches for 3.1I in 2004-2005. Will they have a
3.1I_EXT kernel for V5R3 when released in 2004?

When would be the right time to freeze any fixes and functional
configuration for that matter?

We are up to date with our support packages and we don't apply legal
change packages. So, taking away that is not a problem.

According to SAP(again the maintenace alias on SSM), SAP will
continue to support customers out of maintenace(What does that mean
exactly). I understand that consulting fees will apply after 2004

I value your opinions. Please help shed some light on my problem.

Thanks you again,

Philip Stracener, CV Industries
