No 4.6C upgrade - Staying on 3.1I
Hello,for details upon what "Customer specific maintenance" means please refer to
http://service.sap.com/maintenance -> SAP Standard Support
-> Customer-specific maintenance
SAP will also provide kernel patches for 3.1I based on the 3.1I_EXT kernel after
2004. All SAP on iSeries EXT-Kernels will also run on V5R3.
I hope this helps a bit.

Betreff: No 4.6C upgrade - Staying on 3.1I
Hello again,
I hope not to wear out my welcome here, but I am having problems with
SAP answering my questions. They keep pointing me to
the "maintenace" alias on SSM.
8xx Systems
OS/400 r520
Kernel 3.1I_COM 705
It appears that our company has deceided to postpone our 4.6C upgrade
until Q2 2005. Which will then most likely be a 4.6C -> CPC -> 4.7.
According to SSM alias "maintenace" we will enter "Customer Specific
Maintenance" in 2005. I have been told by a rep at SAP that we will
no longer have access to OSS. Do you really think this is true?
My concern is kernel development for 3.1I. Will SAP continue to
develop kernel patches for 3.1I in 2004-2005. Will they have a
3.1I_EXT kernel for V5R3 when released in 2004?
When would be the right time to freeze any fixes and functional
configuration for that matter?
We are up to date with our support packages and we don't apply legal
change packages. So, taking away that is not a problem.
According to SAP(again the maintenace alias on SSM), SAP will
continue to support customers out of maintenace(What does that mean
exactly). I understand that consulting fees will apply after 2004
I value your opinions. Please help shed some light on my problem.
Thanks you again,
