"Function not supported by file system" during R3SETUP

Hi Per-Lennart,

as described in note 392165 in point 9 (it is wrong, that it only
happens in 3-tier appl-servers!), you have to install the following
both patches:
CRTR3SYS and CRTR3INST

As you are using the old Kernel CD and now the new is patched on the
SMP, you can't find these patches there.
I could suggest the following options to you:
- install the complete 1444 CD just now and proceed then
- get the CRTR3SYS and CRTR3INST *PGM from the new CD (e.g. from a
differrent kernel on another LPAR) and hope that they work together
with this old kernel - it may be an UPDPGM on these EXEs necessary,
with the program, you get a "Signature Violation".
- as the root cause of your problem is that the trans directory is
on a different host, you could change this to local as well.

(if you find crtr3sys or crtr3inst in the r3setup directory, you
have to update them as well, because they are then most likely used!)

As everything seems to be very complicated right now, we should
think how to optimize this for other customers. I think, these
problems will be fixed with the new EXT kernel, that will be
available in a few days, as these kernels replace the installation
sets as well.

For you I would suggest to make the trans dir locally for temporary.

You can do this similar as follows:
- rmvlnk '/usr/sap/trans'
- addlnk '/usr/sap/trans' '/sapmnt/trans'
(I don't know the order in the last command - you should check the
F4)
- restart r3setup - it should work fine
- after r3setup is finished do it back again
- rmvlnk '/usr/sap/trans'
- addlnk '/usr/sap/trans' '/qfilesvr.400/as400name/sapmnt/trans'

Hope, this helps

Regards

Volker
