Performance problems in individual tables. Is it possible?

Hi group,

Last two weeks we have had two strange performance problems. Strange
because the problem was just in a specific report and for a batch input.
In the first problem, we used the sql performance trace, and we noted
that the system took very long time (+20 seconds) for a single update in
the table VARINUM. The problem was mysteriously solved when we used the
database utility (SE14) and reactivated the table. After that, the
update of the VARINUM table was of just a few milliseconds.

Yesterday we had the second problem with a batch input. Again, using the
sql performance tool (ST05), we noted that a select to KLAH was taking
very long time. And again using the database utility (SE14) and
reactivating the table the problem was solved.

1.-Do you know in detail what we are making when we "activate and
adjust" with "saving data" option?

2.-Why we have this performance problems?

3.-How can we remove this performance problems? We usually apply a
reorganization each two weeks ,and last week we balanced our disk
following the statistics of use.

Thanks in advanced for your comments.

Best regards,

Juan Mir
