to ASP2 or not to ASP2 on new hardware ?
Paul,
from a performance perspective, you have at least 3 options
1. Configure an ASP2 the good old way with 2 or more mirrored drives
2. Configure your system with one system ASP only
3. Configure an ASP2 with 8 or more drives with RAID-5, managed by
a dedicated IOP and a dedicated IOA (Raid controller)
Selecting the right option for your configuration depends on many things,
of these is the number of transactions the most important (again from a
performance perspective).
With 1000 users I would expect that you should go for option 2 or 3,
never option one, as the number of drives in option one will become a
bottleneck. If you think that 8 drives or more in option 3 is too much
hardware to "waist" on journal receivers, then go for option 2.
We run our R/3 with one system ASP only.
