Cause . . . . . : One of the following may have caused the problem:
-- The environment may be electrically noisy.
-- Noise on the telephone line is causing data errors.
-- The remote device is overloaded and is not responding within the time-out period.
-- The modem may not be properly grounded.
Recovery . . . : You may choose to ignore this message because your line is operational. Refer to the IBM Systems Hardware Information Center Planning information for information about electrical requirements and noise problem considerations. Consult the local telephone company to have the line tested to verify line quality. Verify the work load on the remote system with the remote operator. Consult the modem manufacturer to determine the proper grounding technique to use. The threshold function may be turned off or changed in the threshold (THRESHOLD) parameter on the CRTLINASC command. To report the problem, start problem analysis (ANZPRB command).
Technical description . . . . . . . . : An inter-character time-out occurs when the ASC program failed to receive any data within the time-out period defined by the inter-character timer value. An inter-character time-out has occurred enough times that the counter kept by the ASC program has reached the value specified in the threshold parameter.
