RELEASE statement &1 out of order.

Message Long Text :

Cause . . . . . : The RELEASE statement was not expected by SORT/MERGE. Either a SORT/MERGE was not active or the statement was issued out of sequence. Message issued at statement &1 of COBOL program &4 in program object &2 in library &3.
Recovery . . . : Remove the RELEASE statement or put it in proper order.
