Cause . . . . . : Control commands are composed of three parts; function, direction, and number.
FUNCTION may be B, P, T, W, or omitted (line selection). B (also b and *BOT) displays the bottom of the file and does not allow direction or number. P (or p) indicates that a page of a printer file is to be found. T (also t and *TOP) displays the top of the file and does not allow direction or number. W (or w) indicates windowing is to be used. Line selection is specified by omitting function.
DIRECTION can be '+', '-' or omitted. '+' and '-' indicate a relative direction from the current page, column or record number. When '+' or '-' is omitted, the number specifies the particular page, column or record number to be displayed.
NUMBER can be any string of digits. It represents either a page number (for P), a starting column (for W) or a record number (for line selection).
Function, direction, and number can be contiguous or separated by blanks.
