Short text
SYSTEM_LC_CTYPE or SICK error : Code set ...
Tip-No.: 1407
Symptom
Short dump SYSTEM_LC_CTYPE.
or
- SICK error message :
'Only 7-Bit ASCII codeset installed.' or
'Installed codeset .... is not ISO 8859-1 ...'
and:
Umlauts are not converted by TRANSLATE TO UPPERCASE/LOWERCASE or on
screens
No country-specific characters are displayed in lists or on screens.
Cause
The wrong character set description was loaded at system start.
Solution
The current character set is made known to the SAP system via the
profile parameter abap/locale_ctype. The standard value, delivered
with the system, is as follows:
HP-UX german.iso88591
ULTRIX GER_DE.88591
SINIX De_DE.88591
AIX Gr_Gr.88591
If the customer does not have this char. set description, the system
switches automatically to char. set "C", that corresponds to 7-bit
ASCII. Characters, not in this set, can no longer be processed.
Every char. set description available to the customer can be used
provided it matches the ISO 88591 character set.
No other character set may be used.
(The default char. set on UNIX machines is usually different).
Nomenclature of char. set definitions in UNIX :
Gr_SW
The char. sets available in the system, can be found under HP-UX with
the UNIX command 'nlsinfo -l', in the other UNIX systems you must
examine the directories /usr/lib/nls (AIX) or
/usr/lib/intln (ULTRIX).
