OPEN DATASET FOR APPENDING
Tip-No.: 2167

Symptom

A file opened FOR APPENDING is overwritten at the beginning of the
file when you switch screens (only occurs under HP-UX).

Cause

Error in HP-UX Rel 8.05 and 8.06.
(ftell returns wrong value for current file position).

Solution

FOR APPENDING option should not used with OPEN DATASET or check that
no screen switches take place while the file is open (no debugging
either).
