Short text

Is a f-point co-processor worthwhile for HP?
Tip-No.: 3158

Symptom

Question: should a floating point co-processor be installed on HP
workstations or server machines?

Cause

.

Solution

A floating point co-processor is strongly recommended if the machine
is to be used not only as a presentation server.

The co-processor is, on the one hand, used galdly by the operating
system e.g. copying data (8 bytes per command instead of 4), as well as
also for integer multiplication and division.

On the other hand, the co-processor is used by the ABAP runtime system
not only for TYPE-F fields, but also for various other arithmetic
operations.
