Error at startup:semget, semaphore error 22
Tip-No.: 3161

Symptom

Startup of an application server or of the SAP System terminates.
Error message: "...semget(..)..no more files.." in one of the trace
files "dev_..."

Cause

Semaphore identifiers in UNIX kernel are provided in too few a number.

Solution

Running the SAP System under Unix requires the increase of the number of
semaphore identifiers in the Unix kernel and the regeneration of the
Unix kernel. The computer must be booted.

Normally, the following kernel parameters must be increased:
(see also SAP Installation Guidelines)
- SEMMNI No. of semaphore identifiers to 15 per SAP System
- SEMMNS No. of semaphores to 50 per SAP System
- other dependent parameters ( SEMMNU, SEMUME, SEMMAP, ...)
