/CWM/CM_2: Finalization of Architectural Change and New Processes

Use

As of SAP enhancement package 5 for SAP ECC 6.0, Industry Extension Catch Weight Management (IS-CWM 605), the CWM, Finalization of Architectural Change and New Processes ((/CWM/CM_2) business function is available: This business function, which is based on new software architecture, considerably improves the integration with ERP. In addition, you can use numerous new and enhanced functions and processes with this business function.

Catch Weight Management is aimed at the requirements of the consumer products industry in general, and the food processing industry in particular, and offers processes and functions with which you can manage materials within the Supply Chain in two independent units of measure (base unit of measure and the parallel unit of measure). Within the value chain, you can choose in line with your requirements whether the valuation unit is to be based on the base or parallel unit of measure for a catch weight material.

In addition, you can display at any time an exact inventory management and valuation, both in the Logistics area and Accounting.

Finalization of architecture switch

When you activate this business function, you complete the new software architecture that was provided in SAP enhancement package 4 with business function /CWM/CM_1 (CWM New Architecture: Inventory Management, Inventory Accounting in ERP).

Business Processes

All of the functions in the core business processes listed here are available with enhancement package 5:

  1. Procurement Process
  2. Order Processing
  3. Manufacture
  4. Quality Management
  5. Goods Receipt and Goods Issue
  6. Inventory Management
  7. Trade

SAP Catch Weight Management Integration

  • SAP Extended Warehouse Management (EWM)
You can use SAP Extended Warehouse Management (EWM) from SAP Catch Weight Management to manage the material inventory in a separate Warehouse Management System. SAP EWM supports the processing of two different units of measure.
For more information, see the following release notes: Goods Receipt and Goods Issue
  • Global Trade Management (GTM)
The Global Trade Management (GTM) component enables you to use catch weight materials both in the agency business and Expense Management.
For more information, see the following release notes: Trade
  • Trader's and Scheduler's Workbench (TSW)
The Trader's and Scheduler's Workbench (TSW) component enables you to make stock projections, and using planning documents to plan and schedule bulk transportation.
For more information, see the following release notes: Trade

Effects on Existing Data

New customer:

If you import the IS-CWM 605 software and activate the business function /CWM/CM_2: CWM, Completion of Architecture and New Processes, you can access their dataset (master and movement data), and use the Financial Accounting, Controlling and Materials Management components in a CWM system more or less as in the standard system.

Migration customer:

If you use a CWM release with the components Logistics Inventory Management Engine (LIME) and Inventory Accounting (Fin-BAC-INV), data migration is essential.

This concerns customers who have activated the following business function of the old architecture:

  • /CWM/BF Catch Weight Management
  • and possibly /CWM/APPL_INTEGRATION_1 CWM, Innovations in Logistics and Accounting.

Data migration

You can only activate the business functions provided with enhancement package 5 for Catch Weight Management if you have already carried out the data migration. Only once the migration is successful can you activate the business functions /CWM/CM_1, /CWM/CM_2 and /CWM/FMP that are based on the new architecture. As of enhancement package 5, migration tools are available that enable a straightforward step by step migration to the new architecture.

1) Install enhancement package IS-CWM 605

The migration program is available immediately after you have installed EHP5 without having to make any additional activation.

2) Carry out migration

Using the migration tools, you can migrate the data of the old architecture, in particular the Logistics Inventory Management Engine (LIME) and Inventory Accounting (FIN-BAC-INV) components.

3) Activate business function /CWM/CM_2

Following successful migration, you have to first activate the new architecture with the business function /CWM/CM_1 CWM, Innovations in Logistics and Accounting. Having activated this business function, the Logistics Inventory Management Engine (LIME) and Inventory Accounting (FIN-BAC-INV) components are no longer available in Catch Weight Management IS-CWM 605. Inventory valuation and management is now done using the corresponding standard components.

You can then activate business function /CWM/CM_2: CWM, Completion of Architecture and New Processes, and use the Financial Accounting, Controlling and Materials Management components in a CWM system more or less as in the standard system.

Note

If you have to migrate data, you are advised to plan an appropriate migration project.

Within this project you have to note that in subareas there can be differences of function between the old architecture and the new, and with this in mind you have to carry out the relevant change management, for example for new or changed transactions and processes. An example of this is the discontinuation of FAI* transactions in Inventory Accounting.

Customers who are planning a migration are advised to get in contact with SAP Solution Management for Catch Weight Management at an early stage.
