/DSD/BF: Enhancement of Tour Scenario with Bar Code (New)

Use

As of SAP ECC 6.0, Enterprise Extension SCM, Enhancement Package 3 (EA-SCM 603), business function Enhancement of the DSD Process (/DSD/BF), you can use bar codes in the DSD process.

Until now, you could not use a bar code for time recording for a DSD tour scenario.

Now the system supports the use of bar codes. The bar code enhances time recording and time processing on the mobile device with a total visiting time that a driver spent at a customer during a tour.

When the driver arrives at a customer on the tour, he or she uses the mobile device to scan the bar code at the customer’s storage location. The system compares the bar code with the customer master data on the mobile device. If the scan is error-free, the system automatically assigns the start time to the customer visit. If the scan contains errors, the system cannot assign a start time and sets an error status. The driver can then enter the start time manually, and likewise the end time of the customer visit.

After the tour is completed, this data is transferred to the backend together with the other tour data for inclusion in the final settlement run.

If you want to use the bar code for time recording, the following prerequisites must be fulfilled:

  • You have assigned a unique number to each customer.
To avoid confusion, each customer must be uniquely identifiable. For standardization reasons, we recommend that you use the global location number (GLN) as the bar code label. If this is not possible, you can also use other uniform numbers such as SAP customer numbers.
  • You have fitted a bar code label at the customer’s storage location, which the driver can access.

Effects on Customizing

The IMG activity Specify Settings for Tour Scenarios uses the new /DSD/ME_TOUR_SV2 view. This view replaces the /DSD/ME_TOUR_S_V view in the IMG activity with the same name, and is enhanced with the Bar Code Support field.

You make the Customizing settings for this function in Direct Store Delivery Customizing under the section Handheld Connectivity-> DSD Connector Settings-> Settings for Mobile Devices-> Specify Settings for Tour Scenarios.
