Work Centers: New Functions

Description

This release note describes new functions in Release 3.0 for work center maintenance.

  1. New input fields on the Basic Data screen

On the Basic Data screen you can maintain the following new fields:

  • QDE system: In this field, you can enter an external system that is used to exchange quality inspection data messages.
  • WIP location: In this field, you can enter the WIP location that is used for material provisioning and which can be found directly in production. It is used both by KANBAN/JIT and the Warehouse Management System (WMS). The WIP location is used for grouping work centers according to provisioning points of view.
  • Backflush indicator: You use this indicator to backflush a material component required for an order operation that is carried out at this work center. During backflush, the system automatically carries out withdrawal posting when confirming the operation.
This indicator is only taken into account if you determined in the material master record on the screen MRP 2 that the decision on whether the material component is to be backflushed is made in the work center. However, the indicator is only needed if the Backflush indicator is not maintained in the routing, production order or network. If the Backflush indicator is set in the routing, production order or network, this specification is always valid.
  1. Default values for unit and dimension of work

On the Default values screen in Release 3.0, you can maintain the work dimension and work unit for internally processed operations as well as units of measures for standard values. If these units are maintained, the system copies them as default values to internal processing of the operation.

  1. New fields and indicators on the Capacity Header screen

In Release 3.0 on the Capacity Header screen, you can enter the following new keys and indicators used in capacity planning:

  • Grouping: Number, specifying the shift sequence and shift definition which can be used when you maintain the available capacity. Grouping 51 through 99 are used for Logistics and groupings 1 through 50 are used in Employee Management.
  • Overload: Percentage rate specification by which the load may exceed the available capacity. This specification is used for finite scheduling. The system uses this to plan capacities.
  • Can be used by several operations indicator: With this indicator, you determine that the available capacity can be used by several operations. This can be useful, for example, if the available capacity of a person is to be used for several operations. By using this indicator, you can also plan on a machine group level, for example.
If an operation is already taking up part of the available capacity, other operations cannot access the remaining available capacity if the indicator is not set.
  • Long-term planning indicator: With this indicator, you determine that a capacity is to be considered on the basis of a planned demand program when determining material requirements and capacity within the new "Long-term planning" application in Release 3.0.
  • Relevant to finite scheduling indicator: With this indicator, you determine that the availability and load of a capacity are considered during finite scheduling.
  1. Capacity assignment

In Release 3.0, you can maintain assignments to capacities as well as assignments to the work center. You can link a capacity with the following objects:

  • Individual capacities:
To ensure a more detailed resource and occupancy planning within capacity requirements planning, you can divide the capacities into individual capacities (for example, individual machines) for which you can maintain available capacities. You can assign requirements to these individual capacities in the planning table (graphic or tabular form) and the system can carry out scheduling for them.
You maintain the available capacity of an individual capacity according to the capacity category in the work center capacity or pooled capacity. You can only define an individual capacity for a capacity category in the work center, that is, you create individual capacities uniquely in the system.
If you want to create individual capacities for a capacity, select the menu options Goto -> Assignments -> Individual capacities on the capacity header screen of the capacity. You reach the Assignments to Individual Capacities screen where you can define any individual capacities.
If you want to maintain the available capacity of the individual capacity, position the cursor on the individual capacity and select, for example, the function key Choose. You reach the capacity header data screen of the individual capacity.
The Maintained indicator on the Assignments to Individual Capacities screen after the respective individual capacity shows that the available capacity for this individual capacity has already been maintained.
If you have not maintained available capacity for an individual capacity, the system calculates it from the capacity's operating time.
  • People:
You can assign people to the capacity where they are intended to work. These people must be recorded in the Personnel Planning and Development System (PD).
If you want to assign people to a capacity, select the menu options Goto -> Assignments -> People on the capacity header screen for the capacity. You reach the screen Assignment to People. Specify the respective people.
  • Qualifications:
To ensure the correct personnel selection according to qualification, you can assign qualification requirements to a capacity. These requirements refer to qualifications and requirements profiles which are created in the Personnel Planning and Development System (PD).
If you want to assign qualifications to a capacity, select the menu options Goto -> Assignments -> Qualifications on the capacity header screen for the capacity. You reach the screen Assignments to Qualifications. Enter the qualifications which must be fulfilled. In addition, you can also control the selection for several specified qualifications by entering required priorities, proficiencies and experience in years.
  • Positions:
When you assign a capacity to a position, the system uses the qualifications specified for the position to select the appropriate personnel.
You can specify one or more positions for a capacity. If you want to assign a capacity to a position, select the menu options Goto -> Assignments -> Positions on the capacity header screen of the capacity. You reach the screen Assignments to Positions. The system checks the positions you entered with Personnel Planning and Development System (PD).

The objects to which you can assign a capacity are dependent on the capacity category. If you use the new indicator CapCatPers for the work center in Customizing to determine that people can be assigned to the capacity category, you can assign a capacity of this capacity category to positions, people and qualifications. If the indicator is not set, the assignment to individual capacities is possible.

  1. Display and test formula

On the Scheduling and Capacity Overview screens, you can display formulas for calculating execution time or capacity requirements or you can test them using different test entries.

If you want to display one of the specified formulas, position the cursor on the desired formula and, on one of the two screens, select the menu options Extras -> Formula -> Display. You can also display a formula on the Scheduling screen by clicking on the arrow key after the formula. In addition, you can display a formula on the Capacity Overview screen by using the function key Formula.

If you want to test the formulas that were entered on either the Scheduling or Capacity Overview screens, select the menu options Extras -> Formula -> Test. You reach the dialog box Test Formula where you can or must enter test data.

Enter general operation data (for example, the operation quantity), standard values and default values for other types of internal processing, such as standard duration and work). If you are using user-defined fields in your formulas, you can also specify the key word ID and maintain the user-defined fields. Press the function key Calculate. The system displays the calculated results.

  1. New menu option Subsystem

For Release 3.0, you can enter the subsystem (external application) or subsystems where the work center data is sent within plant data collection (PDC).

If you want to enter a subsystem for a work center, select the menu options Extras -> Subsystem link on the Basic Data screen in the work center. You get the dialog box Subsystem Grouping where you can enter one or more subsystems.

  1. Work center field selection

The field modification option was implemented in Customizing for work centers so that you have an instrument with which you can influence the characteristics of selected fields on individual screens. You can specify that certain data fields are displayed as follows:

  • as an input field
  • as a required-entry field
  • as a display field
  • field is hidden
  • field is highlighted

You can maintain your specifications for each screen modification group either from the view of modified fields or of an influencing field. Screen modification groups are, for example:

  • Basic data
  • Default values
  • Scheduling
  • Capacity overview

The Work center category for field selection is provided as an influencing field in the work center. You specify this in Customizing when maintaining the work center category for the work center.

If you want to specify, for example, that only SAP1 is used as the standard value key for work center category 0001, proceed as follows:

  • Specify standard value key SAP1 in the default work center for work center category 0001.
  • Set the standard value key field in the field selection for work center category 0001 to display.

If you want to copy the SAP default values for the field selection for work center categories, proceed as follows:

Copy the default values for the field selection:

Proceed

  1. New indicators in Customizing

In Customizing for the work center, you can maintain the following new indicators:

  • To release indicator: When maintaining the usage of a task list type, you can set this indicator to specify that an operation in the order cannot be released or scheduled if a work center that is not defined for production, such as a statistical work center, is assigned to the operation.
When you release this kind of operation in the order, you must change the work center.
  • CapCatPers indicator: You use this indicator when maintaining the capacity category to assign people, positions and qualifications to this capacity category.
  • No actual indicator: You use this indicator to determine when maintaining the capacity category that no actual values or costs are written in the operation when an individual capacity of this capacity category is confirmed.
