Matrix Organization

Description

In Release 4.0A, Simple Maintenance contains an additional access option which offers you two different views for maintaining matrix assignments.

Initial access to matrix maintenance

There are three possible ways to access matrix maintenance. You can:

1. Select a predefined matrix type
   

You select the required matrix type from the list of predefined matrix types. When you select a predefined matrix type, the required matrix relationship between the objects of the two dimensions is predetermined by your choice.

1. Specify a matrix view as a variant
   

You enter the name of the matrix view you have previously worked with and subsequently saved as a variant. The root object for the horizontal and vertical object sets, and the required matrix relationship are predetermined by your choice of variant.

1. Specify a matrix view via standard selection
   

On a selection screen, you enter the required root object type, the root object for both dimensions, and the relationship that should exist between the dimensions. Specification of an evaluation path is optional.

Matrix view

In the matrix view, you can create relationships between the objects of the two dimensions in tabular form. The relationships you create are highlighted at the intersection points on the matrix. The validity period of the relationship is also displayed.

An additional display option is to invert the dimensions by swapping the horizontal and vertical axes with one another. You can directly access the structure view from the matrix view.

Structure view

The structure view offers you the possibility of displaying the objects of a dimension in a tree structure, including the relationships that exist with objects of the other dimension, and the entire structure of the other dimension. Maintenance of the objects is also possible in this view.

Structural maintenance

You access structural maintenance from both the matrix view and the structure view via the menu bar. This allows you to edit individual objects in the two dimensions. This function is useful for example when you want to make structural changes in your matrix organization.

Effects on Customizing

In Customizing, you can specify the types of organizational objects that can be combined with one another in your matrix organization. You can use object types from Organizational Management (such as organizational units and positions) and external object types (such as divisions and plants). In addition, you can define customer-specific object types and use these in your matrix organizations as well.
