Costing Order BOMs

Description

In Release 4.5A in Product Cost by Sales Order you can create a cost estimate for an order BOM. The order BOM costing functionality creates a multilevel cost estimate on the basis the BOM for a sales order. This enables you to cost substructures of the BOM in complex make-to-order production outside of the context of the sales order. The initial material of the cost estimate can be any material below the sales order item including the material of the sales order item. The cost estimate is created with reference to the sales order item.

The use of order BOM cost estimates is recommended in complex make-to-order production. A complex structure that is gradually established over time does not have to be complete in order to be costed. Sections of the structure can be costed in the design stage, before the structure of the finished product has been finalized.

You can use the results of cost estimates of order-based substructures when you create order BOM cost estimates of parent substructures and of sales order cost estimates. Whether the cost estimates based on order BOMs are included in sales order costing or in a parent order BOM cost estimate is specified in Customizing in the costing variant that is used in costing. If you have specified in the costing variant that order BOM cost estimates should be included, then when you create a parent order BOM cost estimate or sales order cost estimate the system first searches for an order BOM cost estimate before it explodes a material node. Transferring order BOM cost estimates will significantly improve performance when costing the sales order item and when costing parent substructures.

If there is a sales order cost estimate for a sales order item, this item receives the status KALK (costed). This status is deleted if an order BOM cost estimate is saved for a material in the order BOM. This tells you how current the sales order cost estimate is.

If you are using a valuated sales order stock you can use the order BOM cost estimate to calculate the standard price of the individual requirements material. The valuation of the individual requirements material on the basis of an order BOM cost estimate uses the strategy for standard price calculation with a valuated sales order stock at the time of the first goods receipt of the material. (Note the indicator valuation strategy in the requirements class.) The status of the cost estimate must be MARKED. A semifinished product in the order BOM can already be valuated before the structure of the finished product is finalized.

A cost component split is always saved for an order BOM cost estimate. Saving the itemization is optional. If the standard price for a valuated sales order stock is based on an order BOM cost estimate and you want to calculate variances, scrap, or work in process at target costs, you must you save the itemization.

Constraints

A costing run for multiple order BOMs that are not linked together is not available.

Changing and costing a subordinate subtree in a multilevel order BOM does not influence the cost estimate of a higher-level material node. If the structure is changed, you must therefore take organizational measures to ensure that all relevant cost estimates are organized.
