Reduction in Collective Orders and in Orders with Parallel Sequences

Description

Previously for lead time reduction of collective orders, networks and of orders and routings with parallel sequences reduction measures were carried out on all operations(activities) until the dates of the collective order were within the basic or the outline dates. Reduction measures were also carried out in operations (activities), where a reduction of the lead time for the operation (activity) has no effect on the overall lead time.

As from Release 4.5A a new type of reduction, in which only operations in the critical path are reduced, is avaialble. If you use this type of reduction, reduction measures are applied to an operation (activity), if this results in the overall lead time being reduced. The sequence of such operations (activities) forms a "critical path". If applying reduction measures to an operation (activity) , does not result in an overall lead time reduction, the operation (activity) is not reduced.

The consequence of this reduction type is that you can retain floats for uncritical operations (activities) and prevent unnecessary splits or overlaps.

For more detailled information about this new reduction type, refer to the R/3 Library Production Orders.

Effects on Customizing
