Interactive Excel for Reporting and Offline Data Entry: New Functions

Description

Interactive Excel links Consolidation databases with the popular spreadsheet program Microsoft Excel for the following activities:

  • Reporting, with an online connection to a SAP System
  • Reporting, with a connection to a Microsoft Access database for the SAP component Consolidation offline data entry program.
  • Entry of data in a Microsoft Access database for the SAP component Consolidation offline data entry program.

Reporting and data entry with a Microsoft Access database is designed for subsidiaries that do not have access to a SAP System.

Interactive Excel provides the following main functions:

  • User-definable data entry forms and reports
The full range of Microsoft Excel functions for formatting, calculation, and presentation can be used.
  • Access to single values, sets and hierarchies from the SAP System, which serve as value proposals for the definition of data entry forms and reports
  • Sets for aggregating multiple characteristic values
  • User-defined spreadsheet formulas in reports
  • Reporting on the basis of reported financial data, standardized data, or consolidated data
  • Refreshing of report data via an online database connection
  • Automatic refreshing of report data when a report definition is modified
  • Snapshots of reports or data entry forms
  • Information concerning the origin of report data
  • Creation of pivot tables as freely definable data cubes for reporting purposes
Data in Microsoft Excel pivot tables can be interactively rearranged by slicing and dicing.
  • Consistency check on data entry forms before data is exported
  • Detailed log of invalid data generated during data export
  • Validation of data in data entry forms using validation rules in the Microsoft Access database
  • Protection of completed report definitions against undesired changes or changes by unauthorized persons
The header data of a locked report can still be changed, and its values refreshed.

Software/hardware requirements

The Interactive Excel component can only run on a PC on which Microsoft Excel 97 and the operating system Windows NT 4.0 or Windows 95/98 are installed.

Installation information

Interactive Excel functions are supplied as an add-on in the form of an Excel template. The separate setup program supplied on CD enables subsidiaries without a SAP System to install Interactive Excel.
