Interactive Excel for Reporting and Offline Data Entry: New Functions
Description
Interactive Excel links Consolidation databases with the popular spreadsheet program Microsoft Excel for the following activities:
- Reporting, with an online connection to a SAP System
- Reporting, with a connection to a Microsoft Access database for the SAP component Consolidation offline data entry program.
- Entry of data in a Microsoft Access database for the SAP component Consolidation offline data entry program.
Reporting and data entry with a Microsoft Access database is designed for subsidiaries that do not have access to a SAP System.
Interactive Excel provides the following main functions:
- User-definable data entry forms and reports
- The full range of Microsoft Excel functions for formatting, calculation, and presentation can be used.
- Access to single values, sets and hierarchies from the SAP System, which serve as value proposals for the definition of data entry forms and reports
- Sets for aggregating multiple characteristic values
- User-defined spreadsheet formulas in reports
- Reporting on the basis of reported financial data, standardized data, or consolidated data
- Refreshing of report data via an online database connection
- Automatic refreshing of report data when a report definition is modified
- Snapshots of reports or data entry forms
- Information concerning the origin of report data
- Creation of pivot tables as freely definable data cubes for reporting purposes
- Data in Microsoft Excel pivot tables can be interactively rearranged by slicing and dicing.
- Consistency check on data entry forms before data is exported
- Detailed log of invalid data generated during data export
- Validation of data in data entry forms using validation rules in the Microsoft Access database
- Protection of completed report definitions against undesired changes or changes by unauthorized persons
- The header data of a locked report can still be changed, and its values refreshed.
Software/hardware requirements
The Interactive Excel component can only run on a PC on which Microsoft Excel 97 and the operating system Windows NT 4.0 or Windows 95/98 are installed.
Installation information
Interactive Excel functions are supplied as an add-on in the form of an Excel template. The separate setup program supplied on CD enables subsidiaries without a SAP System to install Interactive Excel.
