Demand Management: Characterisitcs Planning

Description

Aggregation Logic in Characteristics Planning

You use a self-defined information structure for the high-level planning of products with many variants. The bottom level of this structure must contain the characteristic "combination value key." The next level must contain the characteristic "characteristics combination."

You must set the consistent planning method for this information structure. However, aggregation and disaggregation function in a slightly different way than with other consistently planned information structures: data is copied, and not added together, between the levels "characteristics combination" and "material."

Creating Planning Profiles for Characteristics Planning

You now can create planning profiles to identify "characteristics combinations," groups of likely combinations of characteristics, to plan products with a large number of possible variants, such as cars and and computers. The characteristics combinations also contain values, referred to as "combination value keys."

The planning profiles are used in Characteristics Planning to plan products more easily and quickly by eliminating the need to enter all the different characteristics individually. This functionality makes it possible to manage large volumes of data and improve performance.

Further notes

  • Characteristics combinations and combination value keys can be maintained manually
  • Requirements can be defined for characteristics combinations
  • Information structures can be updated at the characteristic combination level

Creating planned independent requirements (PIRs) for MRP Areas

You can now create PIRs for MRP areas in the same way as you create PIRs for a plant, with the following exception: when you create PIRs for an MRP area, you must enter the identifying number of the MRP area instead of the plant number.

Further notes

  • You can delete PIRs from an MRP area by deleting the MRP area number from the screen "Creating planned independent requirements" and recompiling.
  • When you define the planning strategies and parameters in the material master, these parameters apply to the whole plant, including all the MRP areas within the plant: you cannot maintain the MRP areas separately.
