Archiving of Profit Center Data

Scope of Functions

The archiving object PCA_OBJECT has been replaced by the objects EC_PCA_SUM and EC_PCA_ITEM.

  • EC_PCA_SUM is used to archive totals records from Profit Center Accounting (table GLPCT).
  • EC_PCA_ITM is used to archive line items from Profit Center Accounting (table GLPCA and GLPCP).
  • PCA_OBJECT can only be used to delete, read and reload archives created using this object. You can no longer use PCA_OBJECT to archive.

In addition to the totals records the object EC_PCA_OBJECT also archives their long texts, such as the long texts created for the plan records. If you have already archived plan data from Profit Center Accounting prior to Release 4.6A and long texts existed for this data, you can delete these separately at a later date in the Customizing of Profit Center Accounting (Tools → Prepare Production Startup → Delete Text Data → Delete Long Texts).

There are no reload programs included in the standard for the two new archiving objects. In urgent cases, where a read-only access to archived data is not sufficient, contact the responsible development department at SAP AG.

You can delete archives archived using the option Archive (or Archive without database update for PCA_OBJECT). You can delete the data from the database by executing a separate deletion program from the Archiving menu.

The new objects are also connected to the Archiving Information System SAP AS (see transaction SARI). This means that field catalogs exist allowing read access via account assignment features. The archiving information system offers a new and fast method of reading orderly structured archives.

The read reports and read transactions, that you can execute either from the Archiving menu directly or as a batch job, allow you to read data from the archive and/or from the database. The connection of Report Painter or Report Writer functions to Archiving allows you to custom how you read the data from the archive.

You have unrestricted access to the data generated using the old profit center archiving object PCA_OBJECT. Reload and read programs are available for this.

All the above-mentioned functions can be configured in the Customizing to Archiving and can be executed from the Profit Center Accounting application menu.

For Release 4.6A the index no. 1 of tables GLPCA, GLPCP and GLPCT has been adjusted to meet the requirements of a sorted Archiving, enabling an improved performance of sorted Archiving to be reached.

The two new archiving programs no longer contain the options Output combination list only,Insert combination list and Access parameters. In urgent cases where you cannot do without these functions, contact the responsible development department at SAP AG.

The archiving by document number function no longer exists. However you still have unrestricted access to any existing archives of this type.

The unsorted archiving function is now only possible in agreement with the responsible development department at SAP AG. This process control is to be used in such cases where you need to archive large volumes of data in a short period of time. The Archiving runtime is short, however a fast read access via archiving index tables and a meaningful connection to the archiving information system (SAP AS) is then no longer possible.

Effects on Customizing

Maintain the configurable options (archive file size, test run variants and production run of deletion program, etc.) via the menu Environment → Customizing.

Further Information

You will find detailed information about archiving, deleting and reading profit center data in the corresponding functions of the archiving transaction (SARA) under Goto → Program documentation.
