South African - Gross-up Functionality

Scope of Functions

As of Release 4.6A, you can use gross-up in South Africa. This allows you to set employee remuneration based on a net value per wage type.

You can use gross-up to:

  • Pay an employee a bonus that is subject to tax, but not Medical Aid, Pension Fund, or UIF earnings.
  • Pay an employee an additional payment that is subject to tax, Medical Aid, Pension Fund, or UIF earnings.

Effects on Customizing

For Customizing, see in the IMG: Payroll South Africa -> Gross-up.

Changes in procedure

This function uses an iterative process to derive the gross value.

You can specify in the Customizing, the accuracy of the process.

Note: Only in rare circumstances can it occur that the system can not come up with an accurate solution. For example, if the employee earns less than the UIF threshold and the bonus amount takes the employee's earnings to above the threshold amount, then UIF is no longer payable. In such cases, the gross payment will show a slight variance to the gross amount payment entered.

This functionality is intended to be used for additional payments and not as a sole payment.
